Would Love to Learn Italian

I'm not motivated today, and feel this overwhelming urge to non far niente. I'm trying to remember how to say this in various ways. Maybe I'm meaning non ho voglia di fare niente? I wish I kept with learning Italian so when I visit there in a year or two, I'll have the basics back.
It's hard learning a new language, and believe for me, the hardest is running the words together and not slowly sound them all out. Maybe the rolling of the r's where needed is a top thing too. I sound awful.
My top things to know before I go: "where is the toilet?" (Do they say toilet, bathroom, restroom?), "who has the best gelato and pizza?"
I want to go to the Isle of Capri and know they speak English, but would still be polite to learn some Italian.
What languages other than your own do you speak? Have you wanted to learn other languages?

Even if I knew Spanish (since it’s so widely spoken here) well, I doubt I’d try to speak it around here if English was also an option. Even if I were in Mexico, I’d try English first. Why? Because I sound m like a gringo trying to speak correctly in Spanish. Anyway I slice it, I just know they’d be the laughing at the middle aged white woman trying to communicate correctly.
Now, you, you I have the utmost confidence to get the enunciation and proper accent in Italian right.

Sometimes it's best just to speak English
If we mess up trying to do the Italian by trying to be polite, they might laugh at us in Italian and we don't know what they mean

"Where is the toilet" in Italian "dov'è il bagno?" (It's also fine to ask "dov'è la toilette?) Do not expect that they speak English on Capri, they barely speak good Italian there.
But Capri is a beautiful Island. The guides speak a bit of English, they only studied he phrases they need to know to show the island. Ask them a question and they are unable to answer.

@noni1959 - I enjoyed a lot visiting Capri, even if those small taxi drivers are totally crazy. I remember that I was told that in Greece everyone speaks English. SURE! I was there and I guessed the items on the menu to arrive to eat something I would have liked. It's a myth that all over the world people speak English, they speak their native language.

@LadyDuck How funny. My former daughter-in-law visited Greece last month and had a time communicating. Then at the end, several talked English to her very well. I would think everyone would speak their native language and we learn how to communicate with them.

Good to know about Capris. lol I'm thinking to carry a small electronic translator to help. I chose the island after a friend when there and came back so full of excitement and photos. There are a few other places I'd like to visit, but would definitely like to go there. Wow, that is so interesting. I was speaking some German again, since a camp host I hosted with is from there and she had a time with English at times. Not speaking it this year, I've lost quite a bit again.1 person likes this

I speak both English and Latvian fluently. I know something about German because I love the language and took several courses but could not get through the grammar, and I took French in high school. So Labdien, Bonjour, Guten tag, and Good day in English.

@noni1959 As a child on Saturdays I went to Latvian school, where we learned all kinds of things about Latvia and in Latvian language.

I took French in high school, but I can't really speak it. I also was learning Chinese. I can't speak it well. I want to re-learn French and Chinese.
