Getting retro pay this Friday

This past year was the first year of a 5 year contract. One of the changes from the last several contracts was the pay for duty coverage. When there aren't enough subs or when a teacher needs coverage for like a parent conference or something for just 1 period the secretary in charge will ask teachers if they want to cover hall duty, cafeteria duty, in-school suspension duty, etc. The pay for duty coverage has been $22.05 for 40 minutes. In this new contract duty coverages were supposed to be paid the same as class coverages which is $45.63. I mean it makes sense since the teacher is giving up the same amount of their free time. For some reason that change kind of flew under the radar. I certainly didn't know about it. It wasn't until the head building rep started making waves about it in the spring that most people found out that they were being shortchanged. He made a list of people who had done duty coverages and were paid incorrectly. The union was about to file a grievance when central administration relented and said that they would start paying them correctly and issue retro pay during the summer. Well Friday is the day that we are going to receive retro. That's an extra $23 for each duty coverage that someone did. I take all of the coverages I can get--class or duty. It will be interesting to see how much I get in retro. I'm not expecting hundreds and hundreds of dollar but every little bit helps.
