Weight loss worry.

As I’ve already boasted, I’ve been losing weight. Intentionally. Over the past 6 weeks 5.5 kilos of me have disappeared and I’m feeling mightily pleased with myself. I was not fat to begin with, but I now find it easier to get in and out of the car and to reach my feet to put on socks while standing. It feels good. Here’s my worry though, and there always has to be a worry. Is the weight loss due to my dietary diligence, or do I have an underlying, undiagnosed, medical condition that is responsible? And on the subject of weight loss gone awry, my wife has a friend who was always a burly lass. There was so much of her that airlines advised buying two seats when she enquired about going on holiday and this embarrassed her deeply. So the girl dieted and exercised herself down to 50 kg (8 stone) - well done girl. She was three times that before taking action. But she overdid things and now she’s in hospital with malnutrition, and dietitians are trying to fatten her up. There’s no winning.

As long as you are not losing weight too quickly and keeping active then you should be fine. Activity burns fat and will also help build muscle. That should even things out.

When aiming for a healthy weight, it’s important to first figure out what your ideal weight should be. Your age and medical condition are also key factors to consider before starting any diet plan. Most importantly, consult your physician so they can evaluate these factors, help you target the right weight, and know when to stop once you’ve reached it.

Congratulations, I am sure you feel lighter and better. I have lost 4 kilos during the past 3 weeks. I have never been overweight, but I am better now than 5 kg ago.

It's too bad she overdid it. Moderation is always the watchword

I know you don't like seeing your doctor but, have you thought about asking them to give you a physical? Tell the doctor your concerns and they'll check you out and relieve your mind of that worry, at least. I know I speak for more than just myself, when I say I'd prefer nothing happen to you that can be helped.

It is hard to win sometimes. I'm sorry for your friend but I'm sure you're too canny to diet yourself into illness.

@JudyEv especially since I’ll be in Italy in two weeks time - panna cotta, tiramisu, zabaglione, gelato, torta della nonna, bombolini, affogato and all that pasta.
