I’m watching a programme on tv at the moment called ‘ Rich holiday. Poor holiday ‘
The idea is that a rich couple who have an expensive holiday swap places with a couple that have a cheap and cheerful holiday.
At the moment there is a couple of friends ( both male, both divorced, known each other since they were 5 years old ) who should have been going to Dubai…..their spending money is £1000 a day.
They have swapped with …..
A Mom and adult son who have never been abroad before and who usually go away in a motor home. They have £100 for 4 days for both of them.
So far they are taking to their new holidays like ducks to water …..
It did get me thinking though ……would you swap holidays with someone else ….?

I think I would swap, especially if it meant experiencing a type of holiday I would never normally choose or be able to afford. Having £1000 a day in Dubai would certainly be an interesting experience! But I also think a cheaper holiday can be just as enjoyable when you're with the right people. Sometimes the best memories come from simple experiences rather than luxury. I'd happily try the rich holiday, but I'm not sure I'd want to give it back after four days!

No. Until I started having trouble with my eyes, my family and friends came to my house for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I cooked for a crowd of around 20 - 25 people depending on how many friends came over. When I started needing someone around to make sure I wasn't burning foods, I stopped inviting friends and then the pandemic put a stop to family gathering at our house. Since they claim the pandemic is over, I haven't suggested anyone come over for meals or holidays... I don't want anyone bringing anything into the house that I could catch from them.

@Traceyjayne I would trust you and your hubby not to bring anything into the house if you came over.

Are both pairs enjoying their holidays?
I was going to say that I wouldn't want to go to Dubai, I've never seen the attraction and it's basically a big city with lots of shopping; the world's biggest shopping mall sounds like my idea of Hell! But having just checked out the 'Visit Dubai' site it seems there are opportunities for more interesting things as well (watersports, gardens, museums etc.) so maybe I could put up with it if I had to - although I would be afraid of falling foul of some law I didn't know about and being locked away in some forgotten prison!

@Traceyjayne Sounds like a good experience for both of them. Glad the men had a good campervan experience. My partner has sworn to never go near one again!

Yes, both couples enjoyed their holidays. The son , in the Mother / son combo is really into cooking and he enjoyed all the street markets , he was buying lots of spices etc ….he said at one point he was limiting the amount he was buying and he had spent a fortune…..when his Mom asked how much he had spent he said £90.
I thought he was a lovely young man as they had £1000 a day to spend and he hadn’t gone mad with the money.
The other couple ….the millionaires ….ran out of money in the last few days and used their own. Kind of went against the point of the programme. They were lovely men though and wanted a bbq for those that had helped them with their campervan etc ….

@JudyEv. The Mother / son team didn’t spend all the money …..the two men, millionaires ran out of money and had to use some of their own.
