I have been in the hospital since 8/11. This has been a nightmare. I went in after taking Amoxicillin 875mg. for 4 days, and was no better. I went in thinking I had Penumonia. I was told when I got results from all the blood and urine tests that I have a UTI. NO Antibiotics were given to me the whole time I was in the hospital. I spent 24hrs in the ER! My White blood cells were at an all time high they said. Well, I was getting over Chemo. They did some other tests, and they called in a gastroenterologist. He had the idea that I MUST be having a Stomach Bleed. So they gave me a total of 3 blood transfusions. Finally my cell counts were acceptable. I had decided today that whether the doctor sent me home or not, that I was going. I am in the middle of writing up a piece about this whole journey, and then seeing who I should send it to. They really need to change some things. My next trip to an ER will be to our Other hospital where I have never had a problem with them finding a vein. I have so many bruises from blood tests and IVs I look like I have been beaten up. Took 6 tries WITH an ultra-sound machine to find a vein in the most tender part of my arm! But I DO have to say, the food this time round was Awesome. I had some kind of chicken, not sure how they cooked it, but it was tender and juicy. Mashed potatoes with Mushrooms in it, and Broccoli. The next meal that was good was roast beef on rice with snow peas, Broccoli, carrots and onion. Needed a little A-1 sauces or every Soy Sauce. I ate both of them all gone! Even Breakfast was pretty good. Had Pancakes this morning...Haven't had them in years. They were pretty good. I am looking forward to some Burger King tonight. Been Craving their new Jalopene Burgers.

I am sorry to hear you were so ill. I hope you are starting to feel better. When in the hospital, they rarely give antibiotics by mouth, you almost always get them in your IV instead--they can push the antibiotics faster and more efficiently that way. They don't even tell you unless you ask as it's fairly common to do it that way, so it's very possible you had some administered and weren't told. Glad you enjoyed the food. The hospital here has good food, too--son is a bit picky and he enjoys it.

It does sound like a nightmare, but at least you had good food. Why didn't they give you antibiotics when they figured out you had a UTI?

I know how hurtful it can be when they are trying to find veins..the several tries..sticking the needle into your arm.. can't even think about it. I'm glad you enjoyed the food though
