I’m so happy about this.

This from a BBC report referencing an English chain of pubs, and they aren’t even posh pubs. “Wetherspoons has banned its customers from playing music out loud or taking calls on speaker, saying the noise from phones and tablets was an increasing problem driving people "nuts". Oh I am so happy about this. Sanity reigns at last, I just hope this ruling is ruthlessly policed. At last I won’t have to listen to inane drivel and silly blethers. Pity I never go into Wetherspoons. Maybe I’ll make a point of paying a visit next time I’m in England.

I’m glad to hear that. It’s sad that we have to pass laws to instill manners in people, isn’t it? I always use my ear buds in a restaurant, and never have a phone conversation on speaker in public. It’s bad enough they can hear me, I don’t want them hearing the doctor on the other end!

@fourwalls No we certainly don’t want to hear what you’re discussing with your doctor!! So folk don’t mind. A man at a table near us in a restaurant once spoke loudly about a pain he had in his gentlemanly area until my wife turned round and glared at him. His table was then very quiet, but what’s been heard cannot be unheard.

That's nice. People don't seem to know that the noise from their phones disturb others

I imagine a lot of people will be happy about that.

It should be the policy everywhere... I don't like listening to people's music when out in public and dislike having to hear people discuss "private" matters on the phone. Some people are just rude!

You might be forced to go there just to get away from people on their phones.
