Who wants to be a grandma at 43?

I don't but I'm way past 43.
A woman I talked to yesterday told me she's forcing her children to get married so she could have grandchildren. Her eldest daughter is 27 years old.
I'm 48 and being a grandmother is not yet in my book nor is it in Craig's. He's still young and hasn't started his own career yet.
I did ask Craig if he had any plans of settling down in his 20s and his answer was, "No, I plan to make my own money first, enjoy it...then get married."

I think the 40s are about the average age for grandparents I think Craig has a very good idea on how to do things.

The 40s is way too young in this generation. Even 50s.
When I was young when I think of grandma, I think of them in their 60s.

@toniganzon .........kids are having kids much earlier. My mom didn't have me until she was 25.

@celticeagle My mom had me when she was in her 30s already but she had her first child at 25. I had mine when I was 26.
The generation before my mom always got married early thinking that 20 is considered old already.

In the olden days it's pretty common here to be grandparents in the 40s. Coz women got married quite early on. But nowadays, young women have more opportunities to enjoy being a woman and not just a mother or a grandmother! That's why they choose to marry late.

@toniganzon - It is true that my grandmother got married at the age of 17, women now are smarter and wait longer before getting married and to have babies.

It's not up to the grandparents to decide that, it's up to the ones who must birth, raise, and teach their children. Grandma needs to back off.
I told my children I wouldn't be one of those pushy grandmothers who nagged them to have children--and I didn't. Of the 4 I have, 3 of them have 2 children each. My son that is with me doesn't have any children, his wife decided she didn't want any. It should never be up to the grandparents, ever.

I agree. Our children are not our possession. They have their own lives to live and they're free to make their own choices.

@MarieCoyle Same fo me. I want to be a grandma but not at the moment. Craig is only 22. I want him to enjoy his youth as much as he could being single. Getting married and having children is a huge responsibility and he must be mature enough to handle that.

I always wanted grandchildren but I never pushed it. Like I said, I never felt it was up to me-it’s the parents choice.

Anyway I have lots of grand kids because of my cousins' kids who are now having their own kids, some of them get married early that's why.

The future grandmother started having children very young.
I was still raising out son at the age of 43.
I became a grandparent at the age of 59 and I was ready for it for a few years.
But we cannot push our own wants on our children's shoulders, they need to live their own lives and realize their own personal goals.

There was a time when getting married at a young age was the social norm, so it wasn't unusual for people in their 40s to be grandparents. But my how times have changed! People are putting off marriage until later years so that they can focus on their education and careers first.
And by the way, I certainly don't want to be a grandma at 43! LOL

Good for him! I've never done any of that. Make money, enjoy money, get married, have kids, none of that for me.
