Forwarding mail

I just went to the US post office website and filled out the Official USPS® Change-of-Address form to forward my mail to my mom’s address. I am not sure how long I will live at her address but I had to make sure any important mail that goes to my current address I get. I don’t really care about spam mail.
I had to pay $1.25 (with my credit card) to verify my identity. It’s a small amount but still seems weird that they do that. Why do I have to pay to verify my identity?

I don’t get much mail these days, but every time I moved house, I’ve paid the Royal Mail to forward my mail. Usually for a year. There’s always someone you forget to pass your new address onto, so it’s a useful service. Quite pricey though now probably!

@lovebuglena Free? I just checked and it's £95 for one year here. What a rip off

Here you get your mail forwarded for a year for free but if you want to extend it more than you have to pay.

Because of identity thieves who pretend to be someone. They are getting too good at it.
I think you're smart to stay with your mom while in sale mode. Save you a lot in the long run. I hope you find a buyer soon.

I lived in my mom’s first house. When I lived there with my husband he paid my mom rent. When he left I lived there rent free. She has a buyer already for the first house and closing is Monday. Final walk through of the house by the buyers is Sunday.

I guess the company needs money to stay in business like the post office losing money due to the internet taking away their business.

Usually when a person has to verify their identity they do not present their credit card and pay a charge. Must be a new thing.
