What are we going to talk about?

Brother decided to host a dinner party to celebrate our late mom's natal day tomorrow, Friday the 28th of August.
As mentioned in my previous post, we all don't really get along that well but we are united when it comes to business and when celebrating something important.
It's funny though that we would just dine together without really talking to each other. How weird is that?
Anyway, I'm certain I'd be joining the kid's table to be with my nephews and nieces.

You have such a unique way of bonding as siblings. I can see the same with my aunts and uncles—since they live far apart, they rarely connect. Often, the only time they make an effort to talk and share news is when someone in the family is sick. When everything is fine, they seldom reach out or try to get together.

@toniganzon Wow, that’s really odd. I’ve noticed the same thing with my aunts and uncles—they seem distant from each other. I think it’s becoming pretty common these days.

@rsa101 No I don't think it's common. My brother's children are very close to each other. They even tell each other their secrets. They're like best friends.

Our elder brother is our mom's favorite child. He was considered the king of the family. So we have to obey him, never talk back, never argue with him. If we fought, even if it was his mistake, we were never allowed to talk back to him. Our mom would get mad at us for being disrespectful.

@toniganzon - My younger brother was my mom's favorite. Also my niece noticed how much my Mom favored him. He was always right, he was good boy, he was generous... exactly the opposite of what Mom said.

Just because we are related by blood doesn't me we always get along or enjoy each other's company. People are different, have different personalities, different tastes/preferences, different religious and political beliefs and so forth. Some are introverted; some extroverted. That doesn't mean we have to pretend to be close when in fact we are not. I am that way with my brother. I love him dearly, and he is family, but we aren't close by any means.
And on a lighter note, I really would love to be invited to the dinner celebration in your photo!

The dinner was very quick. Dinner was supposed to start at 7:30. Because of traffic, my sister and I arrived a few minutes before 8 and by 9pm we all went out by 9pm.
