So yesterday, I told you about having to go to the dentist to get the treatment plan for my teeth. Years of grinding my teeth (even with a mouthpiece) finally did damage we had to fix (luckily the damage is not visible; it’s at the sides of my mouth). So my dad went along to hear the final bill since I have zero money for that.
Near the end of her giving me the information, she said as an afterthought that she reviewed my medication list. And while none of it had hurt my teeth yet, some of it could weaken it in the future. I told her to let me know which ones were the most harmful, but if it was my antidepressants I’d never be able to get off of them. I did say I could try to get the dosage lowered.
When we got in the car I told my dad I know he’d never want me to get off of antidepressants because he remembers what I’m like without them. He said gravely, “Amber, I’d never want you to go off of them because I know what you’re like WITH them.” 
That sent me into a fit of giggles.

I'm sure just about every medicine they have me on effects my teeth. I know that anitbiotics effect a lot of your body, including your teeth.

Yes, a couple of my meds can weaken my teeth. I'm still using them because I NEED the meds. I'm over 60 and feel like my teeth have lasted pretty well over the years. I've taken care of them when I can get into a good dentist. The dentist we're seeing now said other than the front teeth I broke when I got dizzy and fell, the rest are in good shape.

As you know, I'm taking no meds but I wonder if some of my teeth crumbled and fell out due to something I ate, I guess I will never know that,

I never thought of that, my teeth are bad as it is so I don't really worry. I don't know if any that I take cause issues.

Hmm, don't know but something to look into I guess I take calcium in a vitamin though. I was taking a calcium supplement, but I read somewhere that calcium supplements can affect your heart..so I will take my chances with slightly brittle bones. Calcium with D3 might not be too bad..but haven't;t reasearched that thoroughly, and that is what I was taking.

I never knew that medication could cause damage to teeth. Makes sense I guess when I think about it. Guess that will be next on my things to look up and see if the meds I take will affect my teeth.

I know I have to tell the dentist that I have prolia injections. It's on my records so I hope they read them from time to time as I don't always remember to tell them.

I found out the the medication I take for my blood pressure can cause problems for teeth and gums ....
