I’m hoping to sleep through this.

This morning I’ll finally start the dental work my teeth grinding has caused. My dentist said to plan on being there three hours. I’m hoping to sleep through it. I did that once before when I got a root canal. They laughed at me when I told them I was going to sleep if they didn’t mind, but I had gone two days without sleep, and I was tired. That was over 20 years ago though.
Can you sleep through dental work?

Oh no, I could never sleep knowing someone is working inside my mouth, with the sounds of drills and equipment keeping me wide awake throughout the procedure. I might be able to nod off at a barber’s, as the snipping of scissors and the comb’s gentle strokes could relax me, but definitely not in a dentist’s chair.

I haven’t had dental work in years. I don’t think that I’ve ever slept through it. But I but a dentist once

first of all, good luck. sometimes i wish i could sleep cause, dentists here don't communicate much so, there is no much difference between sleeping and staying awake in that atmosphere. it would be also helpful for them if we are asleep, i feel. they only give us a needle for pain, which causes pain to numb but we are always awake. how did you know you have problems with grinding, if i may ask? did dentist discover that or you did? i'm living alone and i can't tell that for myself and when dentist used to ask me, i said no, i don't do that but maybe i do. ah, me and my horrible dentists who didn't care

My jaw would pop, and I’d have headaches, but I didn’t know for sure until my dentists told me I was wearing the enamel down on my back teeth. I had to have a dental guard made, and it stopped the damage and pain.
They had to numb me with a needle this time, but they numbed me first with numbing gel so I would barely feel the needle.
While I didn’t completely sleep, they gave me “laughing gas”, and it did relax me.

@AmbiePam thank heavens someone noticed that. in my case, they only asked me once, mybe twice and that's it like ,i should now, not them, who went to school for that. i heard abotu that laughing gas and too bad we don't have it here, so i can experience some serenity. you're brave and keep doing that. thank you for this useful info too. o, that dental guard sounds scary a bit but i am glad it helped you.

I certainly cannot! Being at the dentist makes me so nervous. Though I try to be brave in all the procedures I've been through, I simply cannot sleep at all.

I've never slept through any dental work but I hope you can today while you are starting the dental work.
