Growth and Changes

Happy Labour Day to those in Canada and the US who work and are enjoying a paid day home from work. I fall into that category still. My husband is transitioning from his no pay full time Grandpa's Daycare to being just their Grandpa. He will go over in the mornings and get them out the door and down the street to the bus stop. Otherwise his days will be his own. Last week he had our son get the girls up and ready for him to arrive as if it were a school day. They both had to pack their lunches and put them into their backpacks. Something that many of us take for granted, but lessons that had to be taught, learned and practiced. This morning my son was telling me that both girls went to bed shortly after 9pm, which is an improvement, and both were up on their own by 7am, which is what they need to do come tomorrow. Full time Junior Kindergarten is going to be a year of growth and changes.

Funny how it seems like their little lives passed much quicker than our son's life did during those same years.

@Juliaacv I have thought the same thing. With Adeline and even the little ones talked about here.

@wolfgirl569 Our son and dil are very grateful for Grandpa watching the girls, and instilling good manners and habit into them, but his 'job' of that is over and now is time for school. With full time JK, they start so young here, and they have many years in the school system as they will not graduate until they are 18 years old, and then there is the decision of university or college.

Happy Labour day to you. The girls are ready for their first day of Junior Kindergarten, your husband is not ready to be a full time Daycare for the girls.

He feels a bit melancholy today, he told me that things will work out, he just needs to get a few days under his belt of hearing about their days, and not actually being a physical part of those days.

@LadyDuck He told me it will just take some getting used to, after being with them for entire days for the past few years that is to be expected.

@Juliaacv - I was sure he would have been a bit down the first day. Little by little he will appreciate to have more freedom.

You guys are like my parents. We had to learn how to be responsible for ourselves, and starting young is the best way possible. You all are rearing competent children.

Thank you, it is nice to be reassured. It is actually Ron, who has spent the majority of their time since Mom returned to work, with the girls on a daily basis. He always challenged them both. I look at the video clip of him getting Willow to walk, and when she sat down, he sweetly encouraged her to stand again, and that was the last time that he had to encourage her, as she walked after that all by herself.

The little ones are growing up. Sad, and yet exciting to see. What will hubby do with his days? Does he have any ideas?

Yes, sad and yet exciting is how we feel. Hubs wants to sit back and be ready to go and pick them up during this first month, should they experience any kind of conflict while at school and they call home. Our son has him listed first as a contact, but after that he tells me that he has another 'great adventure' that he'd like to pursue.

@snowy22315 Not at all, he hasn't said anything really until this morning. He will look for work, but what sector, what conditions, those I do not know.

I hope you'll enjoy your day off. I can't remember ever being allowed to do anything for myself at that age, mom didn't have the patience to try to teach us

Thanks, and I hope that you enjoy this day today as well. Grandpa has always been really encouraging when it comes to teaching the girls a new skill, this took them a bit, but they mastered it. They can zip up their own coats, and they have to pair up their outdoor shoes together, that is something that Harper has mastered, but Willow struggles with.

It will be interesting to see all the changes over the next few months. I hope Ron doesn't feel too 'lost' without the girls to care for.

Thank you, he knows that it will be an adjustment after having them with him constantly for the past few years. But he feels lucky that he had that time with them. He got them ready for school by spending so many hours with them at the play group sessions, doing crafts, reading to them, singing with them, watching and playing with them.
