The Thing About Bananas

I like bananas. I always have. I didn't eat them for a while because they're a high-carb fruit. So I allegedly have high blood pressure now. And my research says that potassium lowers blood pressure. Bananas have a lot of potassium. The problem with buying a "bunch" (5-7) of bananas is that they go bad quickly and you have to eat one or two every day before they turn brown.

Why can't you just take off a few bananas and put only the number that you need in your cart? Waste not-want not.

If I go inside the store I do that. I pick a few green ones and a few ripe ones. But we generally pick up our groceries curbside and we can't buy a specific number of bananas - just a "bunch"

I always buy my groceries at the actual store. I try to time it for when son is at the treatment center. I used to eat bananas more than I do now but when I do buy them I literally get 2. Son doesn’t like them plain, he wants his in the form of banana bread and so does my oldest daughter. I do make that sometimes. I think I save more by going and picking out my own stuff but I know a lot of people use delivery services.

I don’t eat them because they have so much sugar, but to be honest, I’ve never been crazy about the texture. But good for you for trying to lower your blood pressure as naturally as possible.

Do you cook and stuff? (I’m sorry if that insults you. I usually don’t, either, and I’m offended when someone accuses me of domestication. ) Adding some frozen bananas to things (I add some to my fake sorbet) is a good way to preserve them AND get the benefits without feeling like a monkey. I guess you could freeze the bunch, but I buy them from the frozen food section.

I just buy them one or two at a time. They're still inexpensive at Trader Joe's, Trump or no Trump. .

When bananas get too ripe. I peel them and freeze them to make banana bread at a later time.

Pretty and I love bananas and often buy two or three bunches of them at a time. We buy them green if we can because I love the mouth-puckering flavor of green bananas. Pretty prefers them to be brown spotted before she'll eat one or freeze them to add to smoothies. You know you can wrap foil around the stems of each banana and they don't start going brown as fast, right?

@looeyville I generally dislike bananas but I buy them for my wife’s blood pressure and cholesterol. Aubergines are good too - we had Imam Bayildi for dinner tonight.

I buy smaller bunches of bananas, but try to eat only one a day, for the potassium

Just now
We bought bananas today. They were barely ripe but are yellowing up quickly.
