So, the day after the big event We had most of the day free for sightseeing. One place sis, son and Iwent was The Harry Potter store just a few blocks from the hotel. That place was open and packed on a Sunday morning. Sorry the pic was dark..but it kind of added to the ambience I guess. The whole store was kind of low light. Any way I got some affordable Gryfindor socks to help my feet..and some cool affordable tote bags. Afterwards we went by Uber to the Navy Pier. It is where Route 66 starts .an old historic road that was used before modern highways. You can still drive it, but I think parts of it are no longer in existence. That was fun I bought a long sleeved Chicago T.Afterwards We went back across the street for a "Chicago dog " Most expensive hot dog I ever had in my life.
We picked up our bags that were being stored at the hotel..and started meandering toward the train station. More fun walking which I was not in the mood to do, although we saw an elliptical which is a tourist attraction there. Reflects sky scrapers. It took a good long time to get to the CTA station..and then another longish walk to Amtrak..Can you tell how thrilled I was? Also, had a sore on foot and my bandaids came loose .ouch.
Anyway make it to Amtrak later afternoon. Train wasn't to leave until 6:40. Got in finally .I didn't have a window seat at first, but seatmate got off in Indiana so it was mine after that.Rude wasn't super comfortable, but managed to get a little sleep on the 19 hour journey. Since alot of the trip was in the dark didn't get to see too much, but it was OK .had my phone and a place to plug it in so all good.

Oh yeah, it was really different. Hopefully, I will get to visit again another time. The kids want to buy a dwelling of some sort..maybe they will have a house warming party.

@rakski It's fun, and I like to branch out and see what is in other places.

It was just kind of uncomfortable to lie down. There was something poking my back. Once it got near dawn I was able to kind of sleep sitting up I guess.

That Harry Potter store sounds fun even with the dark lighting, and those Gryffindor socks were a good find for your feet. Sounds like a long tiring day with all that walking and your sore foot, but glad you got the window seat eventually. A 19 hour train ride is no joke, glad your phone charger saved the day.

Well the next day there was plenty not light, but I was pretty familiar with that scenery.

this reminds me of goblet of fire ( i read all the books).such a cool place but i know the prices and i think you bought good things. some other things are just over pricey and foolishly expensive.
