Farewell Ellie

Our son's dog, Ellie, had a big mass in her tummy area. She also had infections in her two front paws. It spread upwards and her legs would barely carry her. She was in so much pain and discomfort. As difficult a decision as it is, this morning our son and DIL took her to the Vet for her last trip there. My son told me that she seemed very peaceful when they got there, and must have met up with some of her 4-legged friends. His face was still tear-stained 5 hours later. But it is difficult when you have years upon years with a beloved pet. And that is what they enjoyed with her. Before covid, in her younger years, Ellie was a therapy dog for those minors who became Wards of the Crown and were living in a communal setting until they reached age of majority. Ellie brought many smiles, tears and relaxation to those young people. She will long be remembered with love. ~Photo is mine

Thank you. She' is with your Jill Doberman now, running freely searching for sticks and balls, and digging holes.

@Juliaacv I am sure they have met. As much as I hate losing them I hate making the decision. With Jill doberman I didn't have to. In some ways that is easier as I knew it was time and she didn't suffer.

I knew this was coming, and I was dreading it. Yes, I’m shedding tears of my own right now. I firmly believe if she hasn’t yet, she will meet up with my Sherlock and Annabelle. I’m grateful she was loved, and I hope that comforts your son.

You have a good heart Amber. I'm sure that the 3 of them are running and playing like they are young and healthy, digging holes and searching for balls and sticks. Our son will cope with this in his own quiet way. Next Monday is his birthday and he did not want her to suffer and die on her own on that date, it is better this way. She passed peacefully with both of them there speaking softly to her. I feel for our DIL, her family isn't as supportive, and she reached to me for a big hug this afternoon when we were there.

Aww, it was time. They did the right thing. It is hard to let a beloved family member go no matter what though.

When we bought her, the breeder told us 8-10 years is normal based on her parents. She just turned 14 years old earlier this month. The girls continue to as where is 'gone' but that is a conversation for Mom and Dad, not us. Between the emotional day I had yesterday with the hubs and today with knowing that my son's heart was breaking, as it is hard to do what he had to do, I am exhausted.

@Juliaacv I had to cry…my last sweet dog was black and fluffy and her name was Ellie, too. It brought to my mind how much I still miss her. Your Ellie was special and very loved.

I am so sorry for the loss of your family’s beloved Ellie. It sounds as if she did have a wonderful life, but that doesn’t make it any easier to go through. I hope she is playing and romping with other pups and we know she has no more pain. Fly high, sweet Ellie.

Thank you so much. When they got her, they were living together but not married, and now parried 9 years with 2 little 4-year old girls, Ellie was always there, but this past year, it has been hard on her. Here's another photo of her.

@Juliaacv Aye The girls have a good family network , I'm sure they will work it all out and move on. Kids can be quite resilient.

The amimals know when it's time. When we made the painful decision to put mamma cat down, she allowed them to pinch and pull to find a vein. She was more than ready.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Ellie seems to be a very well loved dog. She will always be in everybody's heart. I can;t imagine how painful it must be but it must be done. No more suffering for Ellie.

Just now
Poor Ellie but she is free from pain now. I remember the early photos of her and how taken I was with her lovely face.
