They Reassessed My Return

A couple of days ago I received a brown envelope from the CRA-Canadian Revenue Agency. Being eligible for OAS (Old Age Security) and CPP (Canadian Pension Plan) within the year, I get the odd piece of mail from them with projections. They always come in a brown envelope. This letter was not from that arm of the CRA. This letter was from the taxation department. The reassessed my 2024 tax return. Apparently I was sent a tax slip, months after the date that is set for slips to be sent out for profit sharing. So, as a result I am on the hook for several hundred dollars. That is due next week. I called the accountant, and she told me that this is an error on the issuer's side but that I still need to pay. I will put that on my list of things to do this coming week. I am a bit relieved that it came before I got into the full swing of Christmas shopping.

Well, that sucks. Like you said though..better now though then smack dab in the holiday season. BTW, do the twins have their Halloween costumes picked out, or more likely, do their parents have them picked out?

@snowy22315 They are changing every day now with the exposure that they are getting from school. Most of it is good, but the teachers are under a work to rule order currently because their contract has expired. They may go out on strike in November, but I hope not. I feel that there is a bit of a negative undertone to some of what Mrs. Plum, their teacher says to them or asks them to do. The school bus driver is excellent. He always greets Ron and I and makes sure that the bigger kids allow the twins to get off first and that there is no pushing or rushing. Those steps are alot for their little legs.

I had a refund for that year's return, so basically I had free use of this money all of that time. But there is never a great time to shell out almost $400 in my eyes. Until the summer time Harper always said that she would be a witch every single year. But when I asked her if she was going to be a good witch or a bad witch, she questioned me. I showed her a costume of a princess, and explained that is a good witch. She's all about the bling and the idea of being a princess has been all she talks about. Willow was undecided because she wants to be something 'scary' and I showed her pictures of Halloween scenes and she's decided to be a ghost. But everyday they are influenced by what they see and hear at school, so those ideas could change a few times.

I was not impressed. And to think that typically I would just sit the letter aside and open it later would have cost me interest if not paid next week.

Things like that always scare me. Glad the accountant feels it was a mistake. Maybe you will get a refund check back at some point.

That is disappointing but as you say at least you can pay it and get done with it,

At the time that I filed I got a refund, which never happens, and I questioned it then. So, based on that, I've had free use of their money for all of this time.

No, it is money that they want immediately because they reassessed my income taxes.

That's rough, getting a surprise bill like that right when you're trying to plan ahead. Good thing it showed up now instead of mid December though, at least you can knock it out before the holiday spending starts. Hope the issuer sorts their end out eventually even if it doesn't help you right now.

I was surprised to see a bill for a return from 1.5 years ago. I will be watching for it in the new year when the slips are issued.

If its an error you shouldn't have to, and if they're wrong hopefully you'll get some of that back.

Oh wow, that’s frustrating, especially knowing the late tax slip wasn’t even your fault

Just now
These unexpected bills can be a bit annoying. As you say, it's good you have the money to pay.

Well, at least they’re not penalizing you or fining you for it
