Address updated without me

I got an email from my bank that said: We updated your address, as you requested.
I did no such thing.
I went to my online account to look at what my new address is and it was correct.
I called the bank about this and I was told that probably the US post office notified the bank of my change of address and the info was updated.
I wonder this though, how does the post office know what bank I have an account in?
That's probably what happened with my Mattress Firm credit card as well.
I should probably call them too just in case.

Surely it would be up to you to notify the bank of your change of address

I have no idea. Unless maybe as Michael stated above the bank runs customers addresses through update service. Haven’t heard of such a thing though.

THe post office knows more about you then you would think. THey process everything that has your name and address on it, and can update change of address for you, because they know most people won't remember every place it needs to be changed, and credit cards, debit cards, and money don't know that. if the address doesn't match it can affect your abbility to use your money.

Definitely. I don’t remember this being the case before. Maybe it’s a new thing. I haven’t yet gotten an email from my other bank that I changed my address, even though I physically didn’t change it. Wonder if I will.

Call the bank and ask them how they know? I would.
Would your not-ex know where you are now? Would he have done something weird....?

As I wrote in the discussion I called the bank and the lady said the post probably contacted the bank. Although now thinking about it is weird if that’s the case as how does USPS know my bank?
My “husband” doesn’t know where I live now. And he wouldn’t be able to change my bank info anyway.

@MarieCoyle We do have a few joint accounts. I have to check those to see if address had been changed. So far he hasn’t taken any money from there though he did deposit $73 recently, which I found odd. I am primary on them though.

I didn't know if his name might be on your account, I know when I was married we had a joint account. It's good that he has no access to your bank account.
