I know this might not be palatable looking to you guys but this is actually my favourite meal and I swear it tastes very good despite how it looks. Mung bean/ Munggo bean is known in the Philippines as “the poor man’s meat”. Because it is very high in protein and it is really affordable. It takes a long time to cook as the beans need to be pre soaked in water and boiled until it is open and soft. But in my household we eat this very frequently as my husband and the dog also loved it as much as I do.

I must admit I am thoroughly surprised and impressed you have eaten this. How and when? It is not a very common dish unless you grew up in Asia.

Yes, I suppose it's one of my favorite foods. This dish has always been served at meals since I was a child, but I'm curious as to why it has become a Friday mainstay given how readily available it is at our neighborhood food stands.

@flapiz You can observe that at our local eateries, they would offer those on a Friday rather than any other day.??

@rsa101 I haven’t eaten in a local eatery for the longest time so I will have to trust the local.

Oooh I didn’t know it has become a Friday mainstay now. I would think it is good to sell cause the ingredients are quite affordable so higher profits I think.

I haven't eaten Mung beans in a long time. Do you have a favourite recipe for this? I would like to try it. We do cook beans reasonably often and I am trying to be more conscientious and use the pressure cooker because it cuts the cooking time a lot and saves a lot of electricity (and consequently carbon emissions!)

I don’t have a pressure cooker so I do overnight soak for it instead. I don’t really have a special recipe. Just onions, garlic, tomatoes, a meat of your choice, soy sauce, salad of your choice and just mix in a boiling soup.

My husband liked mungo bean pasta to add to soups. I like Tuscan beans soups.

Oh wow I didn’t know you can put it in pasta. And I am curious with the Tuscan bean soups. I shall try to look up some recipes for that and see if it is easy to cook.

@flapiz It's always a bonus if something you cook lasts more than one meal.
