Now that’s what I call a train ride.

I have my eye on two big, long, cheap train rides and I’m plucking up the courage to drop the information on my wife to gauge her reaction.
They are both in a private locked three berth sleeper compartments all the way, the beds folding away during day time. Toilets at the end of the corridor which is a bummer.
The first is Budapest to Bucharest in 16 hours, the second is Milano to Siracusa in 14 hours.
Would that kind of journey tickle your fancy? What about you, @looeyville ?

I'm not sure
The sleeper from London to Aberdeen in the 70,s was as long a train journey as i had and it wasn't my cup of tea.
It's too long a time to be on a train now for me I think
I hope your wife likes the idea

@ineeddentures I’ve done Glasgow to London in a sleeper and a few 36 hour jobs in India. I much prefer it to flying because you can walk about on a train and with a sleeper you can stretch out. And there’s the scenery (apart from when you’re asleep) and it’s cheaper. Also it avoids the airport experience and all that time wasting and expensive, tasteless food.

All great reasons to travel by rail
Let the train take the strain
36 hours would be too much for me on a train
But in decent weather long motorbike rides are my thing
Haven't done any really long ones this year though

@Ineeddentures I’m just afraid that, according to Billy Connelly, if I sit too long on a plane, as you have to, my bum hole might heal over.

Here in the US they want a fortune for any kind of sleeper cars or roomettes, prohibitively expensive. The only good thing is it comes with free meals I believe.

I hope your wife is okay with your idea.
There are new trains here in the US that supposedly have more room. My dream is to take a train from Boise, Idaho to New Orleans, Louisiana and stay there several days enjoying a haunted tour or two as well as the cemeteries. Then boarding another train to go from there to Michigan. From there it's over to an island called Mackinac and stay at the Grand Hotel there for several days. It is the place where a lot of scenes from "Somewhere in Time" was filmed. A movie that is a big favorite of mine.

I've only ridden on the small amusement park trains. As long as I had things to keep me busy, other than watching the countryside ghost by, I'd be fine with those bookings. I hope your wife and daughter are fine with them, too.
