Magnesium is a popular supplement used for muscle tension, sleep and anxiety, and for loosening the stool. It comes in different forms such as carbonate, chloride, oxide and glycinate which is the most common. The latter is used often because it is gentle on the stomach and absorbs well.
I know many who take this to help them get to sleep. High does can lead to toxicity. For men an average dose is 440 mg. and for women it is 310 mg. with daily doses of 200-400 mg.
More than 5,000 milligrams can lead to toxicity in the body. It can cause such symptoms as difficulty urinating, flushed and red skin, a slow or fast heartbeat, tiredness or fatigue, and low blood pressure.

I ended up in the ER for low magnesium twice. I couldn’t stand without help, my heart raced when I walked, and I could barely walk at the same time. And that was LOW magnesium. Normal on a blood test is 1.9 and mine was 1.0. My doctor has me take 500mg of Glycinate now.

That's good to know. I want to take an electrolyte mix with it, but all I find are ones with sugar or bad ingredients. The good ones are always so expensive
