As I’m prone to worry about the details I’ve been double checking all of my upcoming flights, baggage allowances, etc.
That’s when I Discovered the most ridiculous thing. United Airlines does not allow you to bring a carry-on onto the plane if you’re in basic economy class. I was floored. Since when did that happen? You always been allowed to bring a carry-on onto a plane..
So I did a lot of research and it turns out that it’s only United Airlines that is doing this. None of the other airlines is doing this. I checked my tickets and my fare on United is in standard economy, not basic economy. I didn’t know there were so many subsections of classes.

I haven't flown since 2007 and when I read something like this, I know I will never again.

I can go several flights and nothing terrible happens. I have a son who travels for work. He said he has never experienced as many delays in airports in his life as he has recently. Another thing they seem to be doing is to load the plane with people, and then it doesn't leave...for hours. And they will not let you get back off. I used to enjoy flying, but not anymore.

@looeyville I’m always worried about getting that wrong. It’s so complicated, and purposefully so - baffling. With Aer Lingus now I can take a small bag on board if it fits under the seat in front and can check a 10 kg cabin bag in the hold for free. This is great for us because it means we don’t pay a penny because we never carry more than 10 kg each. Of course they get the money out of us in other ways.

It's hard for me to manage a carry-on on and off the plane, but I do. Any checked luggage seems to go through a hellish period when it's out of my site--beat up by the airlines, scratched or dented, or never arrives when I do, because it's ''lost.'' I've always gotten them back, but what a big pain that is.

Wow I had no idea United was doing that, it sounds so strange. Good thing you checked your fare before the trip cause that would of been a nasty surprise at the gate. I never knew there was basic and standard economy either, airlines make it way too confusing.

I've never flown commercially, so I wouldn't know anything about baggage or seating sections.
