He would have been honored

Today my older two kids and I had to go to a celebration of life. Now at any other celebration of life we have attended it was just a casual luncheon. So my kids and I dressed casually and showed up expecting to stay an hour and head out. This was actually basically a funeral without the body present. It lasted an hour and a half with people saying stories about him and a few prayers etc. Then there was a luncheon after that. So we were there for about 2 1/2 hours. It was a nice way for everyone to get closure in the family. My oldest enjoyed talking to her cousin she hasn’t seen since they graduated high school together 4 years ago. The celebration of life was for my first husband’s uncle. At the luncheon his widow pulled me aside and told me the urn was a box that my first husband had made in shop class when he was young and living with them. This was news to me. I don’t recall him ever mentioning he lived with his aunt and uncle. I assume it was the period after his father and stepmother divorced. She took me up to view it. It really was nothing fancy but it works for the purpose. How honored he would be to know the box he made was being used for something so important. Photo is unrelated. It is a neat mushroom I saw growing in a cemetery a few months back.

Sorry about your loss, that sounds like a long day but a meaningful one. The box he made in shop class being used for the urn is such a sweet detail. I bet his aunt was happy to share that with you, and that mushroom pic is cool too.

That was a nice gesture she made showing you the box and all. And special urn for his uncle, very sentimental to the family I bet.

That is so amazing. They cared that much that they kept it and she used it for his ashes. Wow.

It must have been nice to learn a bit more about your first husband that you had no clue about before the ceremony. I'm sure he would have been pleased that they thought that much of him. How are you doing?
