How do you feel about showing injuries on TV?

Do you think it’s okay to show injuries after they have occurred, even if they are gruesome? I was watching an (American) football game yesterday, and one of the players went down, and did not get back up. The camera panned to him, and you could clearly tell his ankle was dislocated. A good five seconds later, they panned away. Okay, I get it, it took a minute to sink in. But on our local news (apparently on just one channel) they showed the full aftermath. I was very surprised, but having seen it, it didn’t really gross me out. I think if a person wants to see that they can easily go on the internet and find it. What do you think?

Really don't know, guess it depends on what you are watching. Something like that probably not. If it is a medical show though, of course. But maybe you are just talking about sports and such.

I don't know. I haven't seen anything too graphic on TV. Players should have the right to privacy too. I don't think I would want to be shown on TV writhing in pain

It was so weird, snowy. I watched the Kansas City player make an incredible catch, he is tackled, then actually stands up. Only then does he realize his ankle isn’t right, and falls back to the ground. They then go in for a closeup, and you see it.

@AmbiePam Too close it sounds like it..I know one injury I would not have wanted to see up close..was Alex Smith's horrific compound fracture when he played for the Commanders. He has Soo much trouble recovering from that.

I'm not really ok with that. I remember back in the 80s and early 90s such wouldn't be allowed on TV. Even in news reporting, the incident will only be mentioned but it will never be shown at all because the censorship then was much more stricter.
Now it isn't. Because majority of the people want to see this kind of things.

I do not like seeing gruesome injuries of sports stars or persons getting hurt since I can get nightmares if I dwell on gruesome scene on television since I can see the horrible way someone gets hurt on the internet site.

On one hand I get it, but it usually creeps me out because I imagine it happening to me.

@AmbiePam - I only got to see the end of the game in bonus coverage. We got Denver/San Francisco. 4 key players injured in that game.

I think that is taking things way too far and should not be done,

@looeyville I think newspeople cross too many lines in the race to be as voyeuristic as possible. If they were allowed they’d take their cameras into the locker rooms after every game and film the players getting showered. Not just newspeople either. Every time people fall over in the street or anything bad happens people stand around filming it on their phones and society says nothing.

I personally don't think it shows very good taste or feelings for the injured person to do this. I don't get grossed out or anything, I just feel the injured person deserves privacy.

I think replaying it on the news is a bit much, especially since they dont warn you first. Like you said anyone who wants to see it can find it online, so tv doesnt need to push it on everybody. Plus that player has family watching too, which makes it feel kinda wrong to me.
