I fired the phlebotamist

So, I had an appointment for a clinical study. Covid shots already on the market,,no biggie. However, while in there, I had to get some bloodwork. The person they assigned me to was incompetent. I could tell at the beginning, this might not work as she was asking the other one that was in there to check the vein.. the placement etc..I said is she new? Not too nice of me because she was standing right there..I pointed out she seemed unsure and of course she couldn't get the stick done right. It hurt, and the blood still wasn't coming out..Since there was another some sort of medical person in the room, who I guess was supposed to be supervising her, I said if you know how to do this, you do it. She did and no issues. Why do they put phelobotamists on duty that aren't ready for prime time?

I know they only learn by practice, but it doesn’t seem right that we be their experiment. In my early twenties a lady stuck me 7 times before she got a vein. There was no one else to do it, and I hadn’t gotten jaded enough to make a fuss over someone being so incompetent. I’m glad you said something.

Exactly let them practice on each other if they need to practice. I am sure the poor girl was upset, but so was I.

Same question. Not to be rude, but I usually ask them if they can do it properly. My veins are deep and I don't want to get hurt

I was reassured that she had been doing it. However, I have good veins. It should be a piece of cake for anybody who knows what they are doing.

It's not a matter to be rude, but if someone does not know what to do, they should not take care of a patient.

Oh, I hate when that happens because I’m already a hard stick as it is

Ouch, that sounds painful, and I get why you got frustrated. Everyone has to learn somewhere I guess, but not on a patient who is already nervous. Glad the second person got it done quick, maybe next time ask for the experienced one first.

I haven't gotten any booster shots. These places don't have any certain protocols I guess.
