Does old age hurt?

I don’t have a photo of a haircut so I’m taking the opportunity to show one of the objects that was for sale at the market in Nungarin on the weekend.
I’d be surprised if I haven’t written about this before, but I’ve searched for various keywords and can’t find any references to it so here goes. Apologies if you’re read it before.
Vince went for a haircut at a new barbershop and his barber was a young man with a very full head of curly black hair. They enjoyed chatting together and at one point the young man asked Vince how old he was. He nearly fell over when Vince said he’d be 80 next birthday. Once he’d recovered his equilibrium, he asked ‘Does it hurt?’ I can only guess he hadn’t met too many old(er) people.

My father is 74 years old and he is at a good condition physically and mentally. He still works at the field every day. Some Elder people in my homevillage are having condition and work as my father. Vice Versa i see some young men they are in bad health condition like suffering from diabetes, heart and lung condition. I think the younger generation don't have better air and water and those may impact their condition in the future

@JudyEv the pollution is so bad especially the air. Younger generation less do physical job. They smoke and drink more sugar and more preservative and eat more ultra processed food

Judy, I have to say I probably would be shocked too from the pictures of you and Vince. You two look at least 20 years younger to me, and I’m not kidding. I mean, my dad looks younger than his 71 years, but not like you two!
The question is funny, and unusual, but I already assume it hurts to be 80 based on how I feel at 45. I know I feel older due to my car wreck, but I assumed older people automatically felt that kind of pain due to arthritis from age. My late maternal grandmother sure seemed too.

I'm sure it varies for all of us. But firstly thank you for the kind words. I don't have many aches and pains but they come and go from time to time. I think I've documented Vince's heart and lung issues here over the last few years but mostly we chug along pretty well. Neither of us have arthritis which is a blessing.

It's such a strange thing to ask. He went on to ask if he still had a wife.

Nope, it does not hurt, but it can get too long especially when you are alone and have to keep going on and on and on,

When I reveal my age, I tend to get respect.
So everything cuts both ways.
I recall times looking at the elderly with a bit of amusement.
Now it is others turn!
Old age does hurt and the thought of how much more of healthy years left, leave alone how the final goodbye will turn out.

I personally would have had to tell him, sometimes more than others.

@JudyEv - It's probably an honest question that didn't come out right.

Yes, that's mostly true. However, there is a general slowing up and getting stiff.

What a strange question to ask. I don't think it hurts, do you? Then again we aren't 80 yet, that's still a few years from now
