Firefighters from the St. John's Fire Rescue which is located in St. Augustine answered all on Tuesday when a hawk was trapped inside of a storm drain and needed to be rescued.
The rescue mission happened during a thunderstorm and rising water which was accomplished when the firefighters were able to remove the storm drain grate and remove the hawk and take the animal to the St. John's Animal Control to be treated for injuries and be taken care of by the veterinarians.
Hopefully the hawk will be able to make a full recovery. It takes a lot of courage and commitment to rescue an animal during a thunderstorm.

Glad the hawk was saved but how in the world does a bird get into a storm drain?

Most likely the hawk was caught in the flood water and slipped inside the storm drain.

The hawk could easily have drowned in there, so it was great it was rescued before the situation got more dire.

A hawk is a noble creature of the air.
