That’s an unusual question for you today …. Do you eat Pork tongue. ? We have it in this country ….and also Ox tongue. It is cooked, pressed and then sliced, so that we can have it on sandwiches … that’s exactly how I had it today. Sometimes I have sweet pickle on it too. Is it a thing in your country ? Do you eat it ?

@traceyjayne Oh my goodness, your question has catapulted me right back to childhood in Malawi. Once a week six cows were driven past our house from a nearby village to what passed for a butcher. One cow was selected and the remaining five ambled back past our house reprieved. Once they had gone home my mother sent us down to the butcher to ask for so many pounds of meat. You didn’t ask for any particular cut, just meat, and we put it through a hand operated mincer. The only actual cut you could specify was the tongue and once that’s what we came home with. Mother didn’t know it had to be cured and pressed - she just boiled it. We looked at it sitting on the plate, not neatly sliced but just a big gross looking tongue. At we sat looking at it the think twitched and we all screamed and the tongue got thrown out.

@Traceyjayne My granny got a live turkey once to fatten for Christmas. As Christmas approached she killed the turkey by hitting it over the head with a brush, then she lifted it onto her knee to pluck. As she plucked away the turkey regained consciousness and jumped off her knee and ran out the door and down the street with most of its feathers plucked.

@xFiacre. That made me chuckle, I can imagine it, sitting there, in the middle of the table, while you all look on in horror. I would jump through the ceiling if I was there and it twitched…..

Yes, we also eat those where I’m from. We usually cut them into pieces and cook them in soups with a variety of sauces. It’s actually one of my favorite dishes to enjoy during special occasions.

If I KNOW it's tongue, no, I won't eat it. If you just serve me meat, I'll ask what it's from and will happily eat pork or beef. I don't want something that's been in something else's mouth in my mouth. (I give "dry" (No tongue involved.) kisses, if you were wondering.) Yes, mom and dad both ate pork and beef tongue.

@Traceyjayne Of course. The shell keeps the egg from being contaminated.

I believe maybe they would eat it in Cajun culture , but no, that’s not very popular here. It seems a unique feeling to taste something that when alive could taste me.

I don't personally. You would have to go to a butcher shop or specialty market to get it here.
