What do you think us Brits eat and drink ?

I am asking this because I posted somewhere that I don’t drink tea. Then @JohnRoberts said he was ‘stunned ‘ by this. He even questioned if I was a Brit at all ! ( I am x ). It did get me wondering though, there must be many misconceptions about what people from certain countries eat and drink . I am a Brit , but I don’t like tea ….even the smell of it makes me heave. Though I will admit that it is our National drink and most of the population like it, and drink several cups of it each day. I do , however , drink coffee . I think we Brit’s are known for fish & chips. It makes me chuckle when I hear people say ‘ English Muffin ‘ ….people here rarely eat those. So, let’s ask the question ….. What do you think us Brits eat and drink?

Fish and chips and tea! Every Brit movie and TV show I have ever seen shows Brits putting the kettle on every two minutes.

Well, alot of Americans don't drink coffee so I guess it would stand to reason some Brite don't drink tea.

I don't drink tea either and I've had people (always non-Brits) tell me I can't be properly British if I don't. It used to be a big problem because people would automatically make me cups of tea and I would have to surreptitiously get rid of them. A tea-drinking boyfriend was very useful. What I find irritating is when people tell me things, such as 'You boil your meat over there don't you?' and 'British food is tasteless isn't it?'

It's like the Irish saying that they don't say 'Begorrah' and 'top of the morning' all the time. Australia isn't full of crocodiles, snakes and poisonous spiders either!

I did a year of uni in England. I saw my friends eat steak and ale pies, the full English breakfast, beans on toast, and rhubarb and custard. I loved loved loved the fish and chips that I could get at the chippie right on campus.

I knew that you would know lots of our dishes since you spent time living here. I remember you saying how much you enjoyed the fish and chips.

Well, from following you I think they eat a lot of mayonnaise. I generally think of them eating bland foods with no spice, and quite a few cookies (biscuits). I got those impressions from actual British people, but maybe that’s the minority. I’m also under the impression you guys like Shepherds Pie, and eating beans for breakfast is no big deal to you all.

It's a very common notion that Brits drink tea all the time. But I know for a fact that not everybody does. It's like how people believe Filipnios are and there are exceptions.

Well living here for five years I know tea, fish & chips, and the full English breakfast. Surprised to say it is not an everyday breakfast for a British household. And a lot of my friends do consume a lot of tea

I have heard of the ubiquitous fish and chips, obviously. And chicken tikka masala and mashed potatoes. Tea is supposed to be the favorite drink for most.

What is the staple food of Britain, I don't exactly know. However I drink green tea with biscuits early in morning after brushing my teeth but my elder son hates tea.

Well, I love fish and chips and of course tea with milk. I have learned it from my German husband. His cousin is British and doesn’t drink tea, only coffee. I told my husband that maybe he and his British cousin were swapped as kids because my husband hates coffee and drinks tea like you do in Britain.

Ha, I think the tea thing is just what everyone assumes about Brits, so I get why he was surprised. I always figured you all ate fish and chips, Sunday roast and lots of pies. Funny about the English muffin, never knew nobody really eats those over there.

I would say tea since I did see an image of the late singer Donna Summer having a cup of tea with her oldest daughter Mimi now Mimi Dohler) in a magazine around the late 1970s since Donna had spent time in Europe doing shows before she became famous.
