I’m never going to throw another mushroom away !

I am on my own during the week so I don’t really get through much food at all . Even when The Mister is home at the weekend I only cook on Saturday evenings. I sometimes put leftovers in the freezer for another day, but I do find that many times when I am cooking with mushrooms I can never actually use a whole pack. Some dishes I put extra in …The Mister does love mushrooms, but for some recipes you just can’t do that. So I feel that I throw a lot of mushrooms away as they go off before I can get around to using them, However, after a quick google I find that I can indeed freeze mushrooms. So earlier I sliced and lightly sauted a pack of mushrooms that Mom had in her fridge . They are now on a tray being frozen. Before I go to bed I will transfer them into a freezer bag. I won’t even have to defrost them when I want to use them ….simply add to my chosen dish … Even though I am as old as the hills, I am still learning. What have you just recently learnt ?

I have a bag of frozen mushrooms in my freezer right now. I love me some sautéed mushrooms. I guess I learned about three months ago that you can freeze eggs.

@Traceyjayne I still have the eggs. I can’t tell when they expire. I might give away half, and keep the other half. I also have coffee creamer I need to give away, but I can’t find anyone who likes it.

Daddy evil here on my lot, taught me to tear apart a bunch of bananas and wrap, each stem individually with aluminum foil to make them last longer

@LooeyVille …he is very handy, with lots of useful tips. It was @DaddyEvil that told me about rehydrating tomatoes last year and keeping them in a zip lock bag.

My tip would be to eat them. They don’t last as long as the foiled wrapped ones, but they taste better

Damn I couldn't think of one thing I recently learnt. What I recently heard though was that my father used to be an atheist according to my sister.

Too much faff freezing mushrooms. Just go to a decent store, like Waitrose, and just buy as many as you need of the loose ones.

Freezing mushrooms is such a good tip, I wasted so many packs before I figured that out. Lately I learned that day old rice goes way better for fried rice than fresh, who knew. And you're not old at all, we all keep learning something new.
