Wrong info on death certificate

I was looking for my documents again (SS card, certificate of citizenship, passport) that I cannot find after moving to my mom’s. Upon doing that I found my paternal grandfather's death certificate. I glanced at it trying to see if there is a cause of death on it. I didn’t find it, perhaps because my dad never ordered one with cause of death on it. While doing that I noticed that the social security number on it doesn’t belong to my grandfather. One number is wrong. How could this happen? Don’t people proofread stuff before they print? My grandfather passed away in 2016. It’s probably too late to do anything about it now… I wonder if the person that the social security number actually belongs to is still alive… And is my grandfather deceased in the SSA system? And here’s something that crossed my mind… What happens to the social security number once a person passes away? Is it given to someone else? Or does it forever belong to the person that originally had it?

That's a pretty serious piece of paper to make a mistake on. Hopefully this far on it won't have any repercussions.

That would be something to definitely check into. I don't think a SS# goes to someone else. That could cause a lot of confusion down the road.
