Listen to those shouts of joy. I promised Dale would show up, and here she is! Oh, you didn’t think I meant my buddy Dale Watson, did you?
Different genre, different gender. We’re strictly 80s new wave today as we head to Los Angeles.
Walking in L.A. - Missing Persons
No, not country Dale, but new wave Dale Bozzio, the vocalist for the 80s band Missing Persons.
You may not know this, but Missing Persons was formed by a couple of members of Frank Zappa band. Terry Bozzio, Dale’s then-husband, and Warren Cuccurulo formed the band with Dale as the lead singer and one of the songwriters.
Dale has had an interesting life. She was a member of Zappa‘s band, she was a Playboy bunny, and she posed nude in Hustler. While you guys run off to find those pictures, I’ll continue.
she was thrown out of a hotel window in 1976, causing near-fatal injuries. The song “Destination Unknown“ is partially about that incident.
Cuccurulo was inducted with other members of Duran Duran into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and Terry Bozzio is in the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame. Dale is suffering lingering medical issues caused by her breast implants.
This song was inspired by the late-night jokes about L.A.’s car obsession. I remember Carson once saying that L.A. was the only place that had a traffic jam that moved at 60 miles per hour.
I’m proud to say that I proved this song wrong, because I DID walk in L.A. when I was there in 1983!
I’m also proud to say that I still love this song.

Oh, I’m sorry. I didn’t know you were coming back, or I wouldn’t have included this. I’m sorry you don’t like it.

New wave was a fresh sound, so that’s why it still sounds good. It did not get overplayed.

That is the least surprising thing that I’ve heard today.

I listened to it and the bells just didn’t ring…don’t think I had ever heard it before. But in my defense, when this song came out I was insanely busy(or just insane!) and between kids and work had all I could handle.

I’ve never heard of Dale Bozzio, nor Missing Persons. I must go look for them…
Dale has certainly had an interesting life. How frightening to be thrown out of a hotel window, and on top of that suffering from other medical issues.
I’ve been to L.A. and was surprised to find it a sprawling metropolis. I much preferred San Francisco.

Yes, she definitely has had a wildlife.
I have never been to San Francisco, so I can’t compare the two cities yet. I hope to make it there one day.

Yes, she has. I’m really sorry that she’s having medical problems because of those implants.

@JudyEv — I know. And I certainly do not understand what people do with their lips these days.

@FourWalls I find it hard to understand why people would do such things to their body.

Hubby did not know song or artist, but I did. I listen to the songs before I read what you say about them to see if I know them, and as soon as I heard this, I immediately thought that it sounded like the song destination unknown.

For most people, this doesn’t mix well with George Strait.
