Sushi Bridge

For my daughter's birthday this past week, we went to Epcot, one of the four theme parks at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Out of the four theme parks at Disney World, this is probably the one with the least amount of rides, but the theme park makes up for what it lacks in other ways, mainly it's celebration of food and drinks (currently, the Food & Wine Festival is taking place at Epcot). Anyway, the point is that she wanted to splurge and eat lots of good food. In most years, she'll ask to be treated to a nice steak dinner, but this year she wanted sushi from a brand-new fancy restaurant that opened in the Japanese pavilion at Epcot. On the menu, they had a sushi boat for $300. That's what she had her eyes (and stomach) set on. But when we got to the restaurant and she saw the size of the sushi boat (at another diner's table), she decided there was no way we could eat all that sushi. So she opted for the sushi bridge, which at $100 was just a smaller version of the sushi boat. It was just enough to feed five of us without feeling too full. There were samplings of salmon, tuna, squid, octopus, shrimp, scallops, yellowtail and eel. My daughter and I--who absolutely love sushi--were in absolute heaven over the selection. The other three people in our party were less enthusiastic about the meal, but were good sports about it and ate their fare share. We had a late dinner reservation, which worked to our advantage without us realizing it. The restaurant was on the second floor, and we were at a window table facing the large lake in the middle of Epcot, where they do the evening fireworks show. We got to watch the beautiful pyrotechnic display all while enjoying our meal. Are you a sushi fan? And if so, what's your favorite type of sushi?

Sushi is one of those things that not everyone enjoys. You are eating raw fish, after all. A lot of people are scared of trying it because they think they will get food poisoning from eating raw fish, and others don't like sushi because they don't like the texture of raw fish. I've been eating sushi for decades, and never once have gotten food poisoning.

@RasmaSandra I love lox as well, but so many people I know won't eat it. I love going to our neighborhood bagel shop and getting a toasted bagel with lox and cream cheese on it. So delicious!

How fun, and what a treat! I love sushi. I’ve never tried eel, but I enjoy most other kinds. I know it’s a tired choice, but getting a California roll is my favorite sushi treat.

You can never go wrong with a California roll! Plus, it's also a great way to introduce somebody to sushi.

One of the things I love about sushi is that there are so many different varieties of rolls available. I'm always trying something new every chance I get. I have never heard of a Ohilidelphia roll, I'll have to look that one up.

I am a huge sushi fan and I love Maki the most. My son knows how much I love Maki so he would tell me which Japanese restaurants in the city serves the best Maki. And I love sashimi as well.

I remember that food at the Japanese Pavilion in Epcot was delicious. I like sushi time by time, but I am not really a sushi fan. My favorite are the tuna sushi made with lean cut of tuna (akami sushi).

That sounds a wonderful way to celebrate a birthday. A very happy belated birthday to your daughter. My SIL turns 83 today. We caught up with her yesterday so that was nice.

The sushi bridge sounds like the smarter move over the boat, 300 bucks for fish nobody can finish is nuts... Window seat for the fireworks was clutch, plus eel is my fave so i'd have fought you for it fyi.
