Did Pope Leo really request an absentee ballot for the US midterm elections?

That's what multiple news sources are reporting. He is the first American pope and comes from Illinois. He spent many years in South America (Peru?) and now obviously lives in Vatican City which is classified as its own country even though it is located in Rome, Italy.
He has been pretty outspoken about human rights, Trump's war on immigration, the Iran war, Russia/Ukraine, etc. Yes he is quite obviously Catholic but my guess would be that *if* he votes it will be for Democrat candidates.
It is interesting to think about.

After what I have read about Pope Leo, I´m quite sure that his vote would be Democrat.

Pope Leo being from Illinois is the part that gets me, never thought i'd see that headline... imo it makes his words on immigration hit different for a lot of folks here. Kinda fascinating how a guy raised in chicago ended up speaking so plainly from peru to rome.
