My Acupuncturist Has Some Suggestions for My Liver Issues

United States

I had an acupuncture appointment today. This is my fourth visit.. it’s something new that I’m trying because I might as well exhaust all avenues of possibility for better health. She concentrated on the Meridian that would help my liver. She also made some suggestions for me to improve my liver health. They are: Drink lemon water Drink dandelion root tea Drink milk, thistle tea Rub castor oil on my abdomen outside of the liver and then apply a heating pad to it What do you think of any of those suggestions?

I do know there is absolutely no scientific evidence that castor oil helps fatty liver disease. With the swelling/lump you have it’s just imperative at this point that you see a medical professional somehow, somewhere.

I don’t much about these things, obviously, but maybe ask your doctor if the milk thistle tea interacts with anything you’re on? I just remember a friend was taking it (and it wasn’t just the tea, but the supplement), and she found out milk thistle and a med she was on, was potentially toxic. My nurse best friend thinks castor oil wraps work wonders. That being said, she’s also so far down the homeopathy road that I don’t know when she’s being kooky or not in how she uses them.

And the reason you would trust her over a medical doctor is? I am not sure why you won't go to the ER.

I didn’t say I was seeing her instead of a medical doctor. I’m just sharing with you what she said.

I have liver problems, have for years. I haven't found any success with milk thistle supplements. Good luck with comparing these suggestions with those that your family doctor provides you with.

Of course, she’s not my doctor, it’s just something she suggested

I’m not one for alternative medicines unless all normal science backed remedies have failed. If they have then it’s worth trying. Good luck!

I would first make sure that none of it will interact with any medication you’re taking, or would be something you might be allergic to or might cause a flareup. Most of it seems to be things that would not generally harm anybody, although I don’t know if it will necessarily help.

I think there's no harm in trying those teas and lemon water.

I have always preferred turning to natural remedies but I have not idea about how these would react and if they would not contradict any medications you are taking, Maybe this can help and they also list side effects to look out for,

Dandelion root tea is the one i'd try first, my aunt swore by it for years... Hope the fourth visit starts showing some real results for you. Gotta say the castor oil and heating pad combo sounds kinda cozy, lowkey.
