I wanted to know if even using birth control pills regularly, one can still get pregnant? I'm on pills because my OB told us that we should still wait for another year or two before we plan on having another child. But there are times, specialy recently that I seem to feel some symptoms of pregnancy, or maybe I'm just getting sick, but I'm afraid. is there side effects if you got pregnant while on pills? are there cases that a woman on pills accidentally got pregnant? Any opinion and ideas please.

Remember that if you take any kind of antibiotic it will disable the pill effect, so be carefull when you are under medication. Read your med's prescriptions. Also, the pill is a hormonal treatment so it is normal to feel side effects when you take it, as nausea, getting hot, forgetfullness and others (once again, read the pill panflet, the symptoms may be there). And if you just started taking the pill (like.. for one or two months) the probability of a pregnancy is higher than afterwards. Let your body condition itself to the pill, then the symptoms might dissapear and the pregnancy risk is lower. The antibiotic effect will always work... so be carefull.

I didn't know that taking other medication along with the pill could disable its effect, and I have been on medication recently due to gastritis, but I'm not sure if that could affect the pills effectivity too, thanks for the info.

Birth control pills are about 98% effective, and yes, you can get pregnant while on the pill. If you do get pregnant, they will not cause birth defects but could increase your risk of miscarriage. If you are feeling nauseous, that could be from the pills themselves. When I began taking them, I took them in the morning and would be nauseous later in the day, so I began taking them at bedtime and the problem went away. Or you may need to try a different brand, ask your doctor. If you think you might be pregnant, get a home pregnancy test, they will work even if you are on the pill. If it comes up positive, stop taking the pill right away.

There is birth control pills with lower dose that still give you the same protection that you need with lesser side effecs. Most side effects only for some period of time and go away after as long as 3 months. But if the side effects are persistent, you should see your physician. There is no 100% sure in any method of contraceptives. And to increase the effectiveness of your method, you should know when is your fertile days. There are many website out there teach you how to calculate.I have a friend who only use this natural method and as far as i know,it works.

I have been on pills for almost two years now. Previously I don't feel other side effects, asdie from terrible headcahe before my period. My menstrual cycle comes on daily basis, my last was last Feb. 4. so my next will be on the 4th of March. One thing more, I noticed is that my menstrual flow was so little, and lasted only for two days, contrary to my previous period. Before I have a heavy flow and could last as long as three to four days. Is this an effect of the pills too, or could it be possible that I'm already pregnant but still have "period"?

yes... you see there is no 100% safe, even on pills and other contraceptives. no one will guarantee you. you should see a ob-gyne, to check if you are pregnant, or you are just experiencing the pills side effects, some of my friends use pills, and they feel that they are pregnant but not, it's only side effect of pills. like dizziness, vomiting anf throwing up. goodluck

I depends on the woman, but yes, you can get pregnant while using birth control pills. They are only 99% effective against pregnancy, so there is a 1% chance that you can get pregnant. I was taking a low dose birth control pill, and wound up pregnant. This is because the low dose pills weren't giving me enough hormones to guard against pregnancy. How long have you been on birth control? When I first started them, I had pregnancy-like symptoms as well that went away after three weeks. If you feel you could be pregnant, go to your doctor immediately. Take a pregnancy test. If you are pregnant, and you continue to take birth control pills, it could cause your body to abort the baby. Sadly, this is what happened to me. Take care!

Oh yes! There is always that 1% or 2% chance that you will get pregnant. Certain foods and Other medications can interfere with the effectiveness of the pill also. And with some people, the pill just does not work well for some reason. My sister-in-law had 3 pill babies. Don't worry, the babies were all fine but she got pregnant all 3 times while on the pill.

Unfortunately it's entirely possible. My sister got pregnant on birth control. She didn't have any side effects. My nephew was born 3 weeks ago and is as healthy as can be. Good luck.

It is possible to get pregnant while on birth control pills, I have heard of many women who fall pregnant while on pills and none has had side effects. To make the pills work properly, you must take them at the same time each day and if you take other medication or get sick while in cycle, the pills may not work properly. If you are concerned, take a pregnancy test. Better safe than sorry.

An over the counter pregnancy test is the best way to see. They aren't very expensive. Let me share my experience with them. I always buy a pack of two and with all three of my pregnancies I just had that feeling I might be pregnant. I would take the first test and it came up negative. About three to four days after the first one, the second one came up positive.

I agree, and the sooner you know if you are or not you can start to get pre-natal care.

I don't have much faith with over the counter pregnancy test kit. During my 1st preganancy, I used one, it turned out negative, but a few days after, another test showed that I was.Could you recommend a more reliable brand?

Yes you can get pregnant while on the pill. It does happen since it is not 100% effective. Also some women do get symptoms like they are pregnant. The pill makes the body think it's about in the third month of pregnancy so some do get all the side effects that go with pregnancy. I know my sister did. She had to be taken off it because of the morning sickness it gave her. You would be wise to get a pregnancy test and check. No matter what it shows go see the doctor. If it's negative then he might need to fix the dosage and if it's positive to find out more on the pregnancy.

Yes unfortunately you can get pregnant while on birth control pills. Birth controls pills are only about 92% effective. My best friend is 7 months pregnant right because she got pregnant while she was taking birth control pills. She had just had her 2nd daughter and she got on birth control pills and when her baby was 8 months old she found out that she was pregnant again even though she had taken her pills every day like she was supposed to. So far I haven't heard of anybody's baby having problems because of birth control pills but I am sure there is probably a slight chance that something could be wrong with the baby.

I think the Pill is about 98% successful, but, yes - you can get pregnant on it. If you have had any form of stomach problems this month (sickness and diarrhoea for example), the Pill may not have got into your system properly. Also, if you have been prescribed anti-biotics they can sometimes render the Pill ineffective. Best to go to a Doctor straightaway for a test, just to make sure. It maybe just that the hormones in the Pill are mimicking preganancy symptoms, but you won't know until you get a proper test done. Good Luck!

I had a history of gastritis and last November it started recurring so I went into medication. lately. my stomach doesn't seem to function properly again. During my last visit to the doctor, she did asked me if I am pregnant, but based on my last menstrual period, last Feb 4, it's hard to know yet. Aside from that, I feel something in my stomach, like pulsating movement, but this could be cause by the gastritis too, right?

The pill is approximately 97% effective. That leaves a base margin for ooops! Now, in most cases if you get pregnant while on the pill unless there is something else changing how the pill works for you the embryo does not implant properly and is lost early on. Certain medications, even over the counter medications like cough syrup can negate or lessen the effectiveness of your contraceptive pill. Check with your pharmacist and doctor about that.

There are actually quite a few women that CAN and DO get pregnant whilst taking the pill. It's not a hugely common thing, but nor is it really rare either. At least 3 of my friends got pregnant whilst taking the pill. I must stress though that it is probably one of the most effective contraceptives out there for preventing pregnancy. I took it for three years and never had any problems with it. If you think you've been feeling some symptoms of pregnancy, the most important thing is to go and get a pregnancy test done so you know. I don't think there are any side effects to taking the pill while pregnant, but you need to stop taking it right away if you are. Try not to worry too much. Stress isn't a good thing and it's known for making things seem much worse than they actually are. Have a pregnancy test done and then see your Doctor if you are. He/She'll be able to discuss all your options with you and hopefully put your mind at rest.

It is happening common to a 5 percent of females; even though they consume contraceptive pills, they're getting pregnant; reason is that they might have missed to take the pill on a day or two.

It is possible that you would get pregnant though you are taking pills. It happens to my bestfriend whom take pills regularly but due to her surprised she still got pregnant. All you have to do is to make love during your safe period. Safe period means within 10 days after your means and within 10 days before your period comes. That was the doctor said.

I have been on the pill for three years now as my husband and I have a special needs child and are unsure of having another child but we will have to decide soon, I can't stay on these forever! Anyways, there have been times in the last three years I thought I may be pregnant but I have been fortunate to always get my monthly. My husband also withdraws most times to help increase our chances and also, there have been times we have abstained because I had missed pills. Nothing is 100% effective but we have done well. Hope everything goes well with you!

Oh yeah, definately, the chances of a woman on the pill getting pregnant are very low, but its not fool proof, it really contends on whether you take the pill regularly at teh same time each day ect.
