If this is the same case I heard about this morning, and it must be, the mom had dental surgery. It's totally reasonable that the mom wasn't woken up by the smell if she were recovering from having a tooth or two pulled & was taking pain medications. I don't think it's right to blame the mother for reasonably trusting a young man to watch her son.

um, I had four of my teeth surgically removed and was on plenty of pain medication and I still would have been able to smell pot and by the way, it is the mom's fault for leaving her children with young men who obviously weren't responsible! It is a mother's responsibility to protect her children! she has no excuse!

The mother has not been charged. From the article it looks like she trusted her son and his friend to watch the younger siblings. She was sleeping and depending on the house she may not have smelled it and also the type of surgery she had. I've had some where I was out of it for a day and still have very little memory of it. Now you may think she behaved irresponsibly but you need to realize we can't always be 100 percent sure of anyone who watches our kids. I suggest if you really think she is to blame that you have no one but yourself ever watch your kids. It's the only way to be sure of exactly everything that will happen while your child is out of your sight.

I seen this on the news also. I don't know what is wrong with people in the world any more. That is just crazy and insane. Above all things, they video taped it happening. I agree that the other people in the house who said they weren't smoking it, should have at least smell it. It has an odor all of its very own. I think the mother is lying about being in bed and not smelling it. I can't believe them boys gave them babies that stuff. Alot of people in the world are just ate up. It is very disheartening to see all these things happening these days. It makes you very scared to see what in the world is gonna happen next.

Well I tried to look up the link, but it is unavailable now, I guess. Well that is awful, but it just goes to show that sometimes even your own family isn't worth beans to take care of your kids. Since I wasn't able to read the news bulletin, what happened to the kids and his friend? Who caught them?

Here is a link to the article http://edition.cnn.com/2007/US/03/04/pot.kids/index.html It's unclear from it though if the one teenager was her son or nephew but you get the basic idea. Yes the boys acted horribly and should be charged and it does look like they had done this before. I do agree that unless they can prove the mother knew they shouldn't be charging her. She could be innocent and have had no clue. How many parents have trusted teenagers to babysit? For most it is fine and no harm is done but not always. I hope they do hit the teens with as much as they can. They are to blame and deserve whatever happens to them. Also with the mother I have had dental work done were I was out of it for a day. I was actually put under for it and had oral surgery. Depending on what she had done it is quite possible she didn't smell it. It also does depend on how the house is laid out and how far away her room is.

I am surprised that the mother didn't know anything about her brother's character and the guys he hang out with, that is very strange..

Yes, I saw that on the news last night too. It's absolutely sickening. The really sad part is that the toddlers were holding the joints as if they were already experienced at it. They knew what they were doing and it wasn't the first time. What is wrong with these people? Good Lord! They believe the person behind the camera may have been the mother, although she claims to have been asleep in the other room.

I saw this on the news on Sunday (I think), and I was not surprised at all. It doesn't surprise me that someone has done this. Look at all of the other things that go on in this world, and they will show it on the news. It's crazy, and it's sad, but this stuff probably happens a lot more than we will ever know.

Yes, I saw it on the news last night and I can’t believe what I’ve seen also. I can’t imagine someone’s so irresponsible as to expose a 2-year-old boy to that kind of bad influence. I guess, they should really put those two in jail for what they have done for the baby.

Oh that was really disturbing!!! I tried to open your link but it's not working. I still searched on it. That's sick! How can a relative do that? Are they that high??? I mean if they want to ruin their own life...fine! But to include those toddlers to be miserable like them, that's not right! I pity the toddlers...poor babies. i wish they would never see their sick uncles again.

I am with you, I couldn't believe that when I saw it. Who does something like that. The mother should definitely have a bit more control over the situation.

Wow third degree felony charges!! That's a bit much in my opinion. NO doubt what the teens did was wrong. The toddlers don't know better and I am sure they were trying to look good in the eyes of the teens. It is a shame and it shouldn't have happened. That said, there are worse things that they could have done. Things that the toddlers may never have recovered from.

Oh my God, I saw that on CNN today. I was sitting in the Doctors office waiting to get seen and then they showed the kids' video on the news. I was just awe struck. I couldn't believe it. Why would someone do that? What was the purpose of that kid doing that? And then agreeing to go on TV and saying that he thinks that it wasn't as big of a deal that everyone was making it out to be! What an idiot?!?

I want to thank the Lord for creating the people who invented video recording devices and the Internet. If it weren't for video recorders to be so easily available and the internet so that people can post their videos, we would have never discovered the abuse to these poor children! The Lord should also be thanked for making the Uncle and his friend stupid enough to record and post their video. I can't help but think of a line from the old TV show "The West Wing", where the President says that America has some of the dumbest criminals in the world and that he has alway been proud of that.

I think what they did was really irresponsible, if you can not trust your own family members to watch your kids who else you can.I remeber there was a story in news about an Indian village where they give the kids liquour to drink as there is scarcity of work as a result scarcity of food for kids in the village. I will try and find it on web too if its there -link to that piece of news. Its really astonishing and repelling news, poor kids to be born in that kind of family. I wish we could have a huge place where we could put all these kids and take care fo them really really sensibly - so many have had tough child hood and youread about all these stuff daily in the papers. what have we become now after so many years- another beast -we have failed as humans really. we have so many of the fellow beings hungry, starving, abused and we realy have stopped caring now. we love to call ourselves better than animals but are we really better?

This story absolutely disgusted me!!! horrible!!! those children need to be taken away by CPS and put in a suitable environment. It obviously wasn't the first time for those children because they were holding the joint experienced, not to mention that if it was their first time, they would have acted differently, especially being sooooo young! I tried it in my teens and coughed my head off after the first hit and that was out of a pipe, a joint is much harsher! and it looked to me like it may have been a blunt which is even worse! it's just freaking unbelievable! I feel soooo bad for those poor children =(
