With digital cameras so widely used, do you have many newer paper pics?

I've thought about it and while we have a ton of pics we seem to have gotten away from actual paper pictures that we take. All of our pics are now on the computer or stored on websites with storage for pics, etc. It just seems to be the way of the world. I will take one once in a while and get it developed at a local place or chain but more often then not I simply take the pics and place them on the computer or on a disc. Makes one wonder how long before paper pictures are obsolete.

I do a lot of storing, but I also still to do scrapbooking & putting photos on frames on the walls. So I'll print out as I want/need them. I print them myself, I never take them anywhere to print like film photos. I think there will also be paper pictures...I don't see it going away at all.

That is so true, but we buy photo paper at our house and print them out, just now we have the ability to change out the pictures more than we used to. I think the day of keeping the photos in boxes or albums will be gone and we will store them on the computer, which to me is the best thing, just a photo quality printer and you are set.

I often think I am giving away more paper pictures than when I was using film. We can print the photos and don't have to take them some where to have them develpoed. If you want one I cna print it for in in a couple of minutes.

Now that the digital cameras are just as good as the regular cameras it may not be long. I like to scrapbook so paper pics are needed, but I take the pics on the digital and print them at home on my printer. The pics are just as good.

I have both. I store them on my computer but I print them myself. I still like to carry some in my wallet and put others up around the house. I have really made some nice portraits. Friends have asked for copies so I get a kick out of printing them.

I really don't think paper pictures will become obsolete. They may not have the popularity that they used to but there are still a lot of folks who don't have computers. Nothing beats a nice family portrait on a wall or a graduation photo of your child. I know there are camcorders that can capture the memorable moments but having a tangible photo to share is priceless.

If you think about this question again, you may be surprise if the answer is ...... not for a long time. I was at a local photo shop last week, and a well-known rich man walked in and handed over his camera and rolls of films. After he left, I chatted for a while with the proprietor of the shop. He told me that film-camera will always have a place in the community. Even though digital cameras are cheaper these days, however, the older generation still prefer film cameras. I believe so. Many of us who are digicam enthusiats started with film cameras too, right? So, the industry will stay for a while.

I'm not so sure about his thoughts on that. My dad is the perfect example of "the older generation" and so is my uncle. Both prefer their digitals now, although they do complain about the batteries. LOL But I think they love getting the pictures NOW, being able to edit before printing and so on. Most of that generation has switched AND even purchased the photo printers now. I honestly cannot think of a single "older" person who doesn't have one.... oh... my mom. LOL She refused a microwave too years ago. So I suppose there will be one or two out there! LOL

This topic has made me realize my own "media" crisis, lol. I have trouble with paper pics now, because can't share them immediately lke things stored digitally. In faact I have trouble even watching television, because it's not interactive like the computer is.Slower, non-communicative technologies do not appease me anymore, lol, al though I love to write on paper.Guess I have to sort this out!

I understand completely. I haven't really made a paper copy of photos in awhile now. Except for family members that don't have internet I email them, etc. I have so many that are still on my digital as well as on computer. I do believe I'll have to eventually make copies for myself if nothing else, just in case my computer takes a you-know-what and I lose them all. I should have a large photo album to put them in.

Exactly, it's just so much simpler and less expensive now plus you can pick and choose what ones you actually print off to put in a frame or send in the mail to others while still emailing most of them to friends and family.

I actually use both forms of photography, because sometimes 35mm works better, sometimes a digital photo is best. Of course, I also scan all my conventional photos into my computer in case I want to post them somewhere.

I actually have a professional photographer friend that does both versions too, just in case. He will do a wedding with both a digital and a 35mm.

I love pictures! I love taking pictures and posing for pictures! lol! Like you, most of my pictures right now are digital - from digicams and phone cams. I post my pictures in my website, and share it with friends and other people. I love how getting digital makes it easier to share pictures with friends. But once in a while, i select the best photos from recent events and have them printed. There's this digital printing store in our place that offers affordable printing services for digital photos. So i take advantage of their promos. i've been doing this for 2 years now, and am currently filling up my 3rd album ^________^

Well before I got my digital camera (thats a sony cybershot) I used to have only paper pics. But after I got a digi cam I usually store all the photographs on my harddrive... That do save a lot of money that is simply wasted in developing the role of an analog camera...

Yes, we do the same, but we always get a paper picture of our favorites. I don't think they will become obsolete any time soon, there will always be some paper pictures , be it to give to family and friends, to keep in our wallets, or to enlarge and make a poster to put on the wall. What I see happening is that while before we would print all pictures we used to take, now we're becoming more selective. And because it is possible now, there are more pictures that were retouched or altered in some way. I actually love to do that. I can put a different background, cut or add people to the photo, etc. If I'm really satisfied with the way it came out, I sometimes print it.

I mostly store our pics online too and I have ordered a few now and then to send to my sons grandparents, since we live so far away. Might actually look into buying a photo printer and doing them myself.!

I still have few photo albums left empty. Nowadays, with digital cameras, I no longer print print or develop the photos. They are all stored in a harddisk. I think paper pictures may not be obsolete but they definitely going to cost more maybe 10 years down the road.

I store most of my pics on the computer, but the one's I really like, I will have developed. Every omce in a while. I'll go in and delete photos I no longer need or want. However, the task of deleting, I mean to do after each upload, but i just don't get around to it. The great thing about digital photography is that I can take a tremendous amount of photos to get the right shot without wasting any film, and the one's that don't turn out right can be deleted.

nope...not anymore because paper printing of pictures were getting expensive..most of my recent pics are stored on a cd and in a website where my cousins and close friends can view them.... it is more practical doing that than spending much on prints. But on the other hand, paper pictures will stay forever, some people especially the old ones prefers to keep a hard copy to see them from time time than turning the pc and scanning the pics...they don't have much energy for that.

I have a ton of pictures on my computer, love digital. I scrapbook though so I have them printed out when I'm ready to scrap. I also like having pictures of my family around the house so when I take one I really like I have it printed and framed.
