Hilton then someone please tell me why she is only sentenced to do 45? I have hesitated to start this discussion because it is in the headlines but It is just so irritating that because someone has money they do NOT have to do MANDATORY TIME? It's just not right. I have signed a petition to increase her jail time to the mandatory sentence. What is wrong with this picture? It really makes me mad because if it were you or I we wouldn't be in the national headlines and we would be in the slammer for the full length of the mandatory sentence. Anyone who cares to sign the petition can do so here. http://www.youchoose.net/pledge/increase_paris_hiltons_jail_time_10_fold/from/sherryj

Now that she has had her sentence reduced because of over crowding I heard on the radio to night that she is allowed to drive now too. She will spend her jail time in cells that are used for celeberties and that the visiting guards use. she will get her hour out of the cell for phone calls showere tv or what ever she wants to do but noe work relese. Some punishment.

I agree! Thanks!

This is ridiculous, you do the crime you do the time has to apply to everyone equally. So the spoilt little brat has managed to wriggle out of half her time and it looks like she will be accomodated in a place worthy of a spa. Oh yes, I'm guilty of a crime but I am so pretty/rich/famous/etc that I can get away with it. This isn't justice, it's a farce, and I truly feel she should do the whole sentence, in with the rest of the prison population, subject to the same prison discipline and with no special priveleges at all.

I see now she is only going to do 23 days instead of the mandatory 90. I just can't believe it! Thanks!

Why does this idiot keep crying about not knowing her license was suspended when she should be talking about driving drunk - this is what got the fool in trouble in the first place. Paris violating her probation is her second offense, let's not forget she was driving drunk. So where is she being treated unfairly? Let's not forget also that she was drivng with no "headlights on" either when her license was suspended. Now she is going to play stupid like she didn't know - she blames it on the employee who opens and reads her mail. She signed for the ticket and the cop told her why she was getting it, then she threw it in the glove compartment. Get a life Paris, your lies and crying isn't going to work this time.

I know it! It really pi$$es me off that she is blaming everyone except herself! The one she should be blaming. Like I said you or I would be doing the mandatory time. She needs to also. Maybe with all the money she has she ought to hire a limo driver when she drinks! Thanks for responding howard!

She may not even have to spend the 45 days in jail. According to the news on Yahoo Paris Hilton may have her jail sentence cut in half. Time off for good behaviour and prison overcrowding could mean she spends just three weeks in jail. "It's possible it could be 21 days, 23 days," said Los Angeles County sheriff spokesman Steve Whitmore. How fortunate for poor little Paris that the prisons are overcrowded!! Hmmmm....perhaps they can send her to the prison where Martha Stewart served her FULL SENTENCE!!! It's truly a shame that some celebrities can literally get away with murder in this country!! Shame on us!!! PEACE

Yep, that's what I was going to say. For those of us who want to see her do her time, we are going to be very disappointed.

I think it is disgusting also. I was reading something about her taking self defense classes as she feels she needs protection! It's laughable! I hope her sentence is the full one!

I would say she needs some protection they better put her in protective custody. The inmates who ARE doing mandatory time (and their full sentences) are going to be quite pi$$ed when they find out the judge went against the mandatory sentence here because of who she is.

Thanks for sharing this. I'm pretty sure I know what mandatory means, and it isn't anywhere in the dictionary the way this is playing out. Does anyone have a new edition of Webster's? Has 'mandatory' been changed to, "required, unless you are Paris Hilton, then we come up with special rules and clauses"? I can't believe the crap some of these people get away with. I would be so ashamed if she was my daughter.

i don't think just because she is a celebrity she shouldn't be punished for the crime that she had committed... what she had done is endangering other road users and the law should be equal to everybody... she is a citizen as well and therefore she should abide by the law... and i agree completely with you that she should served her full term of 90 days if that is what she should be doing... she shouldn't be escaping that...

I haven't even followed this because it really irritates me to no end. She should do the 90 days like any of us would have to do. We're all special, but not that special. It bothers me that people think that a certain status gives them a shield to hide behind when they do something that is supposed to be punished by law. In regards to Paris Hilton, I don't even follow it at all. She's not a person that I would like to know more about :)

She is not on my list of favorite people either that is what makes me so annoyed with this. I haven't been following it either but have seen it on the new a few times and this one time I saw it I just couldn't believe the situation here. But also like the person above you said It could very well be for publicity. who knows? Thanks for responding!

This is terrible. She broke the law and should be sentenced the full 90 days regardless of whether she has money or not and that she is famous! why are there different laws/rules for famous people and the norm?!? what is this world coming too!!! It is so unfair and I will sign the petition thanks for sharing sjohnson!

I just had a look at the site with the petition to free Paris and I can't believe how many people really think she should not be punished just because of who she is. She should do the 90 days the same as anyone else. She has no excuse for driving drunk or driving whilst banned - it would be very easy for her to call a driver to take her where she needed to go - it's not as if cost would be an issue.
