Kitchen trash can

I've always kept my trash can out in the open in my kitchen next to a hutch. I've been noticing when I visit other people that they are keeping a small trash can under their sink. Is this a new trend? Do you keep your trash can out or do you have it hidden somewhere?

I've noticed many people "hiding" their trash cans. Whether it is to keep small children from digging in them or pets away from them. Our house was built in the late 1960's and they built a pull out trashcan right in to the kitchen cabinets. I have really liked it there because our kitchen is kind of small and there would be no place else to put it - unless it was under the sink.

I like to keep my trash can hitten, I keep it in our walk in pantry so that the door can be closed and when guests are here they don't have to look at, or smell my garbage can.

I actually use more than one trashcan on a daily basis. I do home daycare so that means lots of dirty and stinky diapers. I have a garbage can on my deck just outside my backdoor that is specifically for diapers. I also have a regular kitchen garbage that sits beside the refrigerator. The children are constantly throwing away scraps of paper and all of the other unexplainable debris that children create. There is no way I could keep it under my sink. It is a tall kitchen garbage can and I have to change it at least twice a day. If I had a can that was small enough to fit under my sink I would have to change the bag 4-6 times a day!

That is really a good idea putting the one outside for the dirty diapers.

I know people who have a trash can under the sink. But I have a large family so that would not be approaite size. I also have limited cupboard space to store things. I do howver have a trash can right out side the kitchen in the breeze way. That way anyone can throw something a way on the way in or out. Our trash can gets changed daily as it is. I would hate to see how many times it would need changed if we had a tarash can under the sink. But I have thought of using that idea in the bathroom to save space.

Our trash can sits out in the open. It's in the corner where it's out of the way. I don't like the trash can under the sink. It builds up odors and it's inconvient for me. All a matter of personal preference in my opinion?

My wife and I always had the trash can out in the open. I have to many things under the sink. It is something my parents did and my grandparents did and everyone in my family. Maybe the new people are ashamed of the garbage..well to each his own..

I have 2 kitchen cans out, one for garbage the other for recyclables and they are both under the counter where the dishwasher would go if we had one so they are both out in the open. Just tucked under and out of the way.

I have my trash can in the utility room but it is about the first think you see when you come in the back door but it is the only place I can see anywhere else to put it.

I have a special place for my trash can under my kitchen cabinet. One, I don't like looking at it, so I like it "put away". Two, I have cats, so I keep it behind a cabinet door!

I keep my kitchen trash can under my counter, but it is still out in the open. I have way too much trash to keep it hidden under the sink.

I also have my kitchen trash can sitting out in the open...it sits at the end of the counter where my microwave sits....I could never get by with one of those small trash cans under the sink...I always have a house-full it seems so that will not be changing soon either.....LOL

Hi Sherry, I used to keep our trash under the sink, but have found I go through too much garbage in my house. I have had to move it out in the open so I can use a bigger bag. I need to continue to teach my kids how to conserve and recycle unfortunately. cheers,

I have mine out in the open. Mine seems to fill up way to fast to have a small one hidden somewhere.

I don't hide my trash can ,it was sitting beside the pantry close to the sink .I place it there because it's very convenience for me to reach while i am working at the sink.

My trash can is out in the open because I don't have a small enough trash can to fit underneath a cabinet nor do I have enough cabinet space. I wouldn't say this is a new trend as I've known plenty of people growing up who kept it in a cabinet. I think it's just a personal choice and kitchen space factors into it a lot.

My kitchen is so narrow that if I kept my trash can out we would be tripping over it all day. I keep a small trash can in the panty closet and a larger one in the garage near the kitchen door. Dirty diapers and other smelly stuff go straight to the garage trash can.
