My fellow myLottians.....this morning we got one of those dreaded phone calls..it was my father-in-law...he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer....my brain will not function...all of the training in nursing has left my mind...I am so scared....we are very close and I feel like all of the air has been taken from my body right now.... He says that he is to begin radiation treatments next week and seems to be taking it in stride.....he is 78 yrs. old.... Please add him to your prayers, my friends....I can't stand the thought of loosing him...I am sick with worry...I know that I can count on you, my friends.....

You don't need to ask me twice. I think it is an absolute sin that he lives to be 78 and gets cancer.there have been a lot of advances so he does have a chance. think positive and trust in God

This I believe is one of the best things about Mylot. You are very distressed about this and this is where you came for help and understanding. I am so sorry to hear of your news. But you have to know that it is not all grim. No one wants to hear that a loved one has cancer. It is one of those dreaded words we never want to hear. But you have to know it is treatable and in many cases not fatal. Try your best not to worry. I know how hard that is but you must be strong for him. Being a nurse he may very well look to you for the truth. Find out what that truth is and be ready for that. Please above all remember none of us will ever get out of life alive. He has had a very good and long life and if this is his time come to understand it and just be there for him. By no means is that certain. Prostate cancer is very treatable. Do not despair. Be there for him now and when he leaves the hospital. You can make a big difference if you do that.

Hi Tina, being your friend here at myLot, it pains me to hear the news too, although I do not know your father-in-law. These are times where our faith in God is put to the test. Be strong and trust in the Lord. Commit your FIL in prayer, that God our master healer will grant him the necessary healing and perform a miracle in his life. I will pray for him...that's the least I can do for you. (Jeremiah 16:19) (Proverbs 3:5-6). God bless.

I have been gone most of the day....but I knew that you would be here when I returned, my dearest Wolfie...thank you so very much...I am still shook up over it but am beginning to think alittle straighter in regards to the impact of what he said...I think my brain shut down at that dreaded word and I called him back today to actually absorb some of what he said....hope that makes sense... He will begin radiation next week and he said that he will be able to go in and get the treatment and then drive home shortly afterwards..... Thanks, I appreciate it.....

It was just such a shock..he has always been here for me...I am very close to him...I know that things will work out as they are meant to in the big picture of life...but that does not always make things easy to cope with it.... Thanks so much, my friend...

My prayers and my thoughts are with you and your family! My friend got diagnosed three weeks ago with a brain tumor, they have successfully removed the tumor, and she is now scheduled for radiation. She remembers everyone, and is very positive. God Bless my friend!

Now is one of those times I wish I could come to you, give you a hug and tell you everything will be alright. Your father in law as well as you and the rest of your family will be in my prayers. God has a plan, we may never know what it is but this is happening for a reason. Stay stong and know that you have a whole world of people who care and are praying.

I wish you had been close too...I appreciate the very thought of that, my dearest friend... My brain is beginning to realize that if they got it early it can be treated, with a good chance of being cured......and I am trying to not think about anything else until we know more.... Your thoughts and prayers mean so much to me....

I am so sorry to hear this, and I will pray for him. I just heard a saying that may help, since cancer has a way of making everyone feel so helpless. 'There is no problem bigger than God.' Ever since I heard that, I have been thinking about it in context to my own problems, and even though the problems haven't disapeared, it makes me realize how powerful God.
