Spam - am I alone in getting annoyed about this?

OK - I hope most of my friends here know that I am not usually the kind of person who whines and moans, or gets involved in slanging matches with other posters, or makes attacks here about myLot or about other posters. However, - thete is one thing that happens sometimes here that really makes me angry, so please bear with me as I felt the need to vent about it!!
First - I am always happy to hear from my friends and receive Private Messages etc - in fact I love to hear from the people here that I am proud to call my friends - they know who they are:-)) But there is one thing that sometimes happens which I totally hate - so to whom it may concern, PLEASE do NOT use the PM facility to spam me with your referral links and adverts for some random programme that will make you money out of me! It makes me feel violated - and that I am only being "used" as a way to make someone else money.
I am not here to make money - myLot could never pay enough for that, - I am here to learn new things and make new frends, and because I enjoy chatting with people. And if I did suddenly feel the need to join some tacky PTC programme, I would do it in my own way by running a google search, or perhaps checking my trusted friends' homepage or blogs to see if they can suggest anything, and have a link I can help the with. So please do not harrass me with your daned referral links, because I can ignore them here in ordinary discussions, but I can't so easily ignore them in PMs!
I am the kind of person who hates telemarketers who phone me at home trying to "force" me into buyng stuff I don't want, I also hate "spam" emailers who fill up my email inbox with unsolicited rubbish I always delete without reading, and I equaly hate so-called "friends" who spam my myLot PM box with their sites and referral links, and will immediately delete them from my friends' list.
OK - perhaps you think I am over-reacting, but when i came home from work tonight I had a PM notification, went straight to check it in case it was an important message from a friend, and it turned out just to be spamming -and I just got mad. Thanks for letting me vent!
So does anyone else get annoyed by this, or is it ony me?

I just had another pm spammer giving me info on car insurance- I pmed him back and said not to send me spam anymore and he responded with - "this is not spam it is car ins info i thought you might want and if you can't read English maybe you should go home"...Nice huh??
Of course everything was misspelled so i made a nasty comment back and told him that spam is unwanted adverising info, in case he couldn't read english and if he opm's me again i will take further action.
But thanks for the BR- I may be posting a discusssion about this guy if he doesn't leave me alone!!!!

I don't get much spam on here, but my email is full of it. Some of my email addresses, have as many as 2 or 300 every day, and I usually just empty my bulk mail. I really hate it when it comes to my inbox. The thing that aggravates me the most, is the spammers that use a date that's way up there, like 2037, or something, just their mail stays at the top all the time.

Well Rosie I wonder if you got it from the Person as me today as I have removed that Person out of Friends List now
I can not be doing with that sort of thing so I get rid to be honest
I will ask Friends if they want to join a Site if they ask but that is it
Not like what I got today that is a no and got deleted and the writer with it
The Person sent a request through again and I denied
Sorry but I do not want PMs like that and I do not want to know about things like that

I am totally with you on this...Its annoying and frustrating..I have just been through the a similar process. I had accepted a friend and the next minute I received a PM which was spam..I didnt even think about it because I was so angry and I just deleted them..I have been here for 7 months and never came across until yesterday..I too am here for the discussions and friends, I didnt ask to be spammed, they have no tight at all..

I do understand how irritating that can be. I would be annoyed too if I was the one who received that spam. Getting these spams in the email is irritating enough, what more when you receive it as PM?

Just kidding I feel the exact same way. If they aren't eating up board space with their spams they are sending through PMs or better yet posting their stupid adds in friends comments on our profiles. Me, I delete and happily report their butts. It's getting to be too much and IMO it's rude as heck. If I want some advice on where to make those vast Internet millions (LOL) I will ask. However I am going on 4k worth of posts and time here at Mylot I think it's apparent I like where I am and the money isn't the important thing for me. You know? So anyway I am glad you took a moment to vent cause now I had my chance to vent with you.

It would be nice if MyLot had an abuse link for such things as this! Just think of how quickly we could get rid of the annoying "idiots". This is very irritating and I also have very little tolerance for spam in any form. Maybe this could be a suggestion we could forward to the powers that be???

I hate this also..
I do not get a bunch of messages on mylot, but I do get them in my yahoo, and I hate it. It is usually those people who like sending me links that I USED to talk to and I am just still on their lists.
Another thing that I absolutely cannot stand is those people who text me on my phone all these "chain" texts. The ones that if you do not send it to 10 people in 8 minutes you will have bad luck forever... BLAH BLAH BLAH.

I don't think you're alone in this at all rosie. Spam is a big percentage of the whole email going around the world nowadays unfortunately. I can't think of many ways to stop it, it's just everywhere. I guess that the only measure we can implement in order to avoid it as much as possible is not signing in to sites we don't know well, or having an address just for that, so that all the junk goes there and doesn't flood our main email accounts. Also, some friends are a pain in the butt, always sending forwarded messages....I am lucky enough to say that i don't receive many of those anymore....seems that saying that i normally don't read them worked after all hehe.

I agree with you here. If I want to get referral links then I will ask for them. Then you can send me whatever links you want me to check out. But until then just leave me alone. I actually have to messages right now that I haven't bothered to open because I know from the subject line they are spam.
Now if I am friends with someone and we have good conversations on a regular basis about non money related topics and they happen to find something good for me to check out then I won't get as upset. But when I feel like someone has become my friend just to spam me that's when I get upset.

Oh no, you are not alone in this. I have seen plenty of discussions started about this topic. Patience is wearing thin from what I see.
I don't think any of your friends consider you a moaner or whiner. None of us like this type of unwanted bother in our life.

I'm sure there are a lot of us that are with you on this one. I mean, don't we get enough spam in our email box? Geeze. Everyone is out to make a buck and a lot will try anything to do so including annoying the rest of us. As for telemarketers, I'm on the do not call list which is http://www.donotcall.gov so they're not allowed to call my number which is a GREAT relief! lol However if one were to call me, most of the time I had to get down right rude (which I hate to do but sometimes you have to) and ask them, "what part of NO did'nt you understand?" and then hang up.

What annoys me is that before we had all this technology we used to get so much rubbish put through our letter boxes and now with spam, do you think the rubbish abates? NO! We still just keep getting junk mail through, still at least with spam they are not pulling up trees! One thing I am NOT missing not having my internet is the spam, however it is all nicely filtered into my junk folder thanks to GMail! So I never have to worry about it.

It never used to bother me but more and more spam are out there all the time and it is starting to get annoying especially in mailboxes .
We moved about a month ago and didn't have our internet hooked up for a month so in the meantime I want't able to get online . When I came back online my mailbox was so stuffed with spam that it took forever to get rid of and then I came on here again yesterday and noticed I had a bunch of messages , when I went to check them out every single one of them was spam . I understand people won't to promote different idea's but at the same time why do they have to send so many of them and all to the same person .
I agree with you that is can be annoying !!

I am also in the same boat but I think when we sign up for something, even though there is a privacy policy for show, its not followed by any of them I have tries to use one e mail in a very reliable source and did not check for any extra offer still i got unwanted third party mail in that inbox. So when ever you have email address and you are giving it to any of the person in the world of business, it will get spam.
