I have a 14 year old son and a almost 16 month old daughter and they are so different in the aspect that my daughter doesn't like drinking milk I never had a problem with my son I can get her to have a little bit to keep the calcium going etc but she sometimes throws a trantrum and fights with me to do it lol... Any suggestions from all you mothers out there that can get a 16 month old to drink enough milk in the day?

My 7 1/2 year old son wen through a phase when he did not want to drink milk. He was older than your daughter though. He was like 3 at the time. You could try putting a little bit of flavor in it, but not too much because it will also be adding sugar. You could also try to get her dairy intake in other forms such as yogurt and cheese. That way she will still be getting the calcium, but you don't have to fight her to drink the milk. I am sure it is just a phase that will pass in its own time. Do you drink milk? I don't like milk and I think that is what affected my son not drinking it at age 3. He knew I didn't like it, so he didn't want to drink it either.

I used to growing up but I'm overweight so don't drink a whole lot of milk and I know my husband can't because of a medical reason he has so I'm wondering if that is why she won't drink it...I give her a sippy cup in the morning and bottle at night but I take it away when she has had enough and keep giving it off and on through the course of the day so she will she loves cheese I haven't tried her on yogurt yet I will give that a try. Thanks for your response.

My almost 8 month old LOVES yogurt. I started just giving her plain yogurt and she has worked up to strawberry banana and cherry vanilla yogurt.

All you can do is keep trying. Maybe you could try watering the milk down for her. It might be filling her up too much. However, although milk is a good source of calcium, there are other ways to get it. I assume she's eating solids and she's old enough to have eggs so you could do something like scrambled eggs, adding milk when you make them. That way she will be getting plenty of calcium and you can try ways of getting her to drink milk without worrying that she is missing out on what she needs.

That is also a great idea pumkinjam and yes she is on solids and loves to eat cheese and other milk products I will give that a try and see how she likes it...She does drink her milk just doesn't seem to drink a whole lot.

I noticed you said she uses a sippy cup. Milk is rather thick for them. It may be worth trying her with an open cup because it might be that she struggles to drink it rather than doesn't like it. Although, you shouldn't worry about how much of it she drinks, particularly if she loves other dairy.

She seems to do ok with the sippy cup it seems to flow easier then the bottle for her...She does drink it just not enough from what she is supposed to drink I'm told and I was worried about her getting enough of the calcium and stuff that milk provides.

Hi Hun, I don't really have that problem with my daughter as she seems to enjoy drinking milk. The only thing I can suggest is giving her stuff like chesse, yoghurt, and other sources of milk. Also the Nestle Quick idea would probably work as long as you don't get her too wired from all the sugar lol. Love & Hugzz, Your Friend, PurpleTeddyBear.

Hi BlueAngelIRS! I think that's a good idea to at least be halfway there. However, as for me I just try to earn points as much as I can everytime I logged in because at the moment I am having difficulty with my connection. Take care and have a nice day.

Hi BlueAngelIRS! I am sorry for the above response, I am having some problems with my computer. It's going crazy. Anyway, when I was taking care of my niece when she was only 3 months old, she was really fussy with her milk and I was really confused on what to do at that time because her parents were at that time is working away from home. And so, I just ask her pedriatician on what to do, she switched on another infant formula and good thing, she likes it and I have no more problem about it. Again, I am sorry for my response earlier. Take care and have a nice day.

If she hates the texture or taste, maybe try skim milk. If its not that, like others said it could be a lactose intolerance issue. There are other sources of calcium like spinach, soy, bananas, oranges, some seeds and beans.

All children are different, and the first mistake any parent can make is assuming that their children will be alike, or trying to get them to be alike in any way. She could just be going through a phase of not wanting milk, I would suggest not forcing her to drink it. Perhaps, she just does not like the taste of it. Also, your little girl doesn't actually NEED to drink milk - she can get an adequate amount of calcium from other products such as cheese and yoghurt, if you are worried about her calcium intake. Perhaps she might like the taste of soy or rice milk better?? There are a lot of things you could try with your daughter, but forcing her to drink milk is only going to make her more stubborn I think. I hope this helps...

She will drink milk I'm just worried that she not drinking enough of it..She uses sippy cups during the day drinks a little we put in back in fridge then give her some more throughout the day...But the health nurses here keep telling me she needs 24 ounces a day and she not even taking a quarter of that and she has been like that since formula...But I will definatly try yogurts with her I know she loves fruit so I'm sure yogurt shouldn't be hard. Thank you for your response.

Thank you for that, that sure makes me feel better and you are right I'm the mommy I know best I shouldn't follow what the health nurses say to an extent they go by a book it seems all kids should be doing this that and the other at certain ages but what the regret to realize is kids are like adults in the sense that they are their own person and are different.

I can fully understand your concern if the nurses are telling you that. But be assured, that as long as you are giving her adequate calcium in other forms, small consumptions of milk are of little concern. Just do what you think is best darl. You're the mummy, you know what is in your child's best interests, just do what you feel is right. *hugs*

How about giving her some flavored yogurt. They have all of the kids yogurts, and cheeses. Milk is not worth fighting over. Get her the calcium in other ways. Macaroni and cheese - I have never heard of a kid not liking it.

Thanks for your response I will definatly give that a try..She does drink it just not near the amount that say they are supposed to drink at this age but at the same time I think that amount is even too much lol...

There are many foods that are high in Protein and nutritious enought to replace milk in your childs Diet. I wouldn't worry about it! Cheese is a dairy food and eggs are delicious and very wholesome. Perhaps you are asking her to drink too much milk! Give her a chance at a diet of green and yellow vegetables, Frozen Green peas are very tasty, lightly cooked and sprinkled around her plate. Orange Juice and fresh Fruit are great for kids too. Stay away from all prepared foods, like cookies cakes, sugar sweetened donuts. All bottled and canned pop is poison for kids as well as Chips and fried potatoes. Stick to the fresh and frozen foods and natural fruit drinks.

when my babies were smaller they wouldnt drink milk,so i would add a little of ovaltene or a tiny drop of chocolate milk and they got to like the milk, then i just started to give them 2% percent milk and they were fine after that,i didnt have to sneak anymore things into their milk.you can also get their calcium by giving them cheese, yogurt, mac &cheese etc.pattie

Hey, me no mom but me can tell. they all kick up a rukus when it comes to drinking milk. I had the same problem with my 4 year old. I started him off on milk by mixing some chocolate in it and told him it was good for him or else he would have to go to the doc. Well that solved my problem and now he requests a certain flavor in his milk. It was a job, and the threat of the medical fraternity is regreted, but I got the job done. he he he.

I am betting shes lactose intolerent. Your describing mom's behavior as a child shed refuse to drink milk throw it and always frown due to being in pain (tummy). wasnt till years later they found out why, lactose intolerent. I Suggest trying some milk alternative like soymilk perhapes.
