I don't mean to offend anyone and if this topic is too gross, then feel free not to answer and skip this discussion. I just wanted to know whether eating celery causes one to fart a lot. I have been eating celery (with dip) over the last two weeks (as part of my diet to lose weight) and have found that I tend to fart a lot more than normal, usually after a few hours of eating celery. (And its not the silent kind either and most of the time its deadly too - sorry to say). Has anyone experienced this when eating celery?:)

LOL!!!!! You got me laughing again, thank-you. I have been in a depressed mood the last couple of days. End of the month trying to make ends meat. It seems to be getting harder every month. If only people would order from my website, I would be okay. But, that was not the subject. LOL No, not with the celery. I think it is the whole diet that does that. Your bowls are getting a new eatting pattern. For me that would be normal. My bowels are over active. But, if this diet does not work, I can give you a tip. Eat three times a day, regularly at the same time of the day (6 or 7 am - 12 or 13:00 pm and then again at 17:00-18:00). Leaving 4 to 6 hours inbetween. No fruit inbetween, not even an appel.Let yourself feel hungry a little. (Note I said a little, don´t starve yourself)After 19:00 no more foods! What to eat? Anything you feel like it, as long as you eat it within the hour. ( Eat varitity foods, not noddels every day.LOL) This has worked great for me! And because I leave the time inbetween, it feels like I cannot eat as much as I used to. I am satified faster. Listen to your body, not your taste buds. When you feel you have had enough, stop. Works for me , when I keep it up. And I don´t need to go on a noticable diet. No one knows, I just keep my patern, no inbetweens. No, stress of others telling you how to do your diet,LOL! Have a nice day.

Hi, Okay, good luck! For me it works the best. I hate diets, it makes me want to eat more. Then, I normally end up in the jo jo stage. Tired and misserable. But, this way of eatting regularly, really helps me. I hope you profit from it as well. Take care. Margajoe.

I don't know about the celery but I have a feeling the dip could be a contributor. I have IBS and I know dips and creamy sauces cause me problems. Sugar is bad for smelly farts. Broccoli and cauliflower are gassy vegetables. I had to stop serving them altogether because my husband could really clear a room! We don't eat them at all anymore. We stick to tomatoes, carrots and cucumber.

I love celery, I don't know if it does cause us to fart since I fart alot!;)LoL I would like to think that it was because you're stomach don't have much to squeeze on, which I think was preferred to as spasms. I also learned that eating too much foods which are rich in fiber and/or carbohydrates, are the usual cause why we fart.

I knew this man once, he was so old, he farted dust. Ha, just kidding, LOL. Anyway, according to the experts different foods cause methane in different people. I know that foods high in fiber cause me to cut the cheese. Was that too gross, sorry, LOL.

I have been eating celery from last 4 weeks and it has been causing lot of gas. At the 4th week it is too much and almost all the time every 5 to 10 minutes. So finally I decided to look on the net and try to find , if it does. I got enough info that it does in many cases. I was glad that I found a good source to stuff my self but I think I have to stop for a while and then later add just half a stick in my food. Regard, Jim akhter

It doesn't do that to me... I think it makes me burp. However I think I remember my great grandmother can't have cellery for that reason.

I don't know about celery because I don't eat it, but certains lettuces tear my stomach up. The really dark green lettuce always bothers my tummy. I think most veggies like that give gas though.

well there are some food that is known to cause gas. Beans are the usual suspects when we talk about gas. But some food can cause gas to some people too. It might do it to other but just the select few. Maybe your stomach reacts differently to celery thus causing the gas. Another reason could be the dip. Some dips contain onion which is another favourite when it comes to gas. Sure wish you find the answer soon as gas isn't exactly a great gift to have. Cheers ;p

I believe if I remember correctly that most vegetables do cause gas. Some worse then others. I dont remember if I get gas from eating celery and dip but I do know that when I eat celery and peanut butter and sunflower kernals I do get gas. First it starts with a sick feeling in my stomach and then I get gassy. Its not to terrible though and it is worth it for how delicious it is.
