I am so frustrated. I live in a small rural community where there is no buses, cabs, or even sidewalks. I have been hit three different times as a walkers in my life, and my sister was seriously injured as a walker too. I need a car in this area just to even get milk as that is even far. But I hate cars. I have an old 1996 Sunfire and last week coming up the driveway my strap let go on my gas tank. I had the three children in the car. We were lucky that it wasn't on the highway. It took three days to get a strap in for my man to fix it too. GRRR! I don't seem to see people have the transportation issues we always since to be facing! Time and again there are car problems! Am I alone?

I'm lucky to have busses to ride! - local bus
I consider myself very lucky because I don't have these problems to deal with. I don't drive and live where there are busses and cabs whenever I need them.

Ya I moved here from Toronto so I never had this problem and didn't factor that in when I moved here. but I kept thinking after all these years that it would somehow get easier. NOPE

Wow, that all stinks Vicki! I do get what you are saying. I'm in an urban area and DRIVERS are awful here. I don't blame the cars, the cars can't drive themselves. It takes a person, no a moron, to do the crappy things that happened in your story. You think its bad there? In plenty of pseudo rural areas stateside (i.e. sprawlland) its nothing but cars and drivers going as fast as they want. No sidewalks, no buses. The driving is pretty much craptacular no matter where you look stateside. Its drivers doing 40-50 MPH in 35 zones. Its drivers doing 35 in a school hours school zone! Its drivers driving like they are the only ones on the road, complete disregard for everyone else. Its drivers trying to beat pedestrians in the crosswalk when the pedestrians have the walklight and the right of way. And its drivers that balk at any attempts to get busing or improve transportation (unless its adding lanes to roads or removing speed limits but that just expands the idiot piles, uh I mean "traffic jams") I could go on and on about this. Maybe this'll be another discussion I host in due time. And personally I've almost been hit by several cars, all of the time I had the right of way. A few drivers just decided to take a left turn despite the fact a pedestrian is using the WALK light and the crosswalk. -_- Others were on the cellphone or just impatient and inept drivers to begin with.

Driving a car is really cool. But it do cost we so much. first of all , we have to pay for the car. secondly, we have to pay for the gas. at last, you have to pay more tax on the car. in all ,i don't like cars either.

Of course you are not alone. Who has a car, has more problems also. Have you been hit three times? That is too much. DO you believe in God, or something?

I was hit when I was 5, then 9 and then 17. First two were my fault as I wasn't watching where I was going. The third the car wasn't paying attention. Luckily I wasn't seriously hurt any time.

My dad was hit by a car once as a walker. There was an accident and he was crossing the street to see if they needed help. It was nighttime, rainy and foggy. He looked and no cars were coming so he crossed and a car hit him. The car didn't see him and he didn't see it because the idiot driving didn't have his lights on. Fortunately he only got a broken leg. I've been in loads of car accidents myself and I Hate other drivers, not cars!

yeah that would be the drivers for sure. The first two times I was hit I didn't look where I was going. I was 5 and 9. Then when I was 17 I was at an intersection and the driver wasn't looking for walkers and hit me. Luckily I wasn't seriously hurt any of those times. Thanks raychill

My car has been pretty nice to me as far as breaking down, but for awhile I was getting flat tires all the time. I used to live in a city where there were buses, cabs, and even trains. Now I live in the country and have to drive a minimum of 3 miles to get milk. That is at a gas station where it costs way too much too. I have to drive 11 miles to go to the nearest grocery store. A working vehicle is a necessity around here for sure.

I completely understand what that is like. I could go 3 km to get milk but it cost a fortune and it usually is expired. I have had a lot of it go bad the first day. The closest real store is 20 km away. Car is a need. Thanks

Well, I don't hate cars because it's a necessity in our place being a village at the outskirt of the town or city. Public trasportation in our area is not available anytime you need them and it's very important to have one especially at night. Having a private car I admit is rather expensive - for its maintenance like gas, repairs of all all kinds of its parts when it bogged down. What we have in our place are the ones we call tricycle (a motorcycle with attached pedicab/sidecar on its side good for 4-6 passengers) or a trisikad (a bike with a sidecar good for 1-2 persons). It's a very handy means of transportation in the Philippines for short distance travel or just around the village. You should see them and maybe copy them for your transportation around your village/area - that is if your community or transportation department will allow that in your country.

Cars are like every thing else wonderful as long as they work. But oh such a pain when they don't. It would be nice if there was public transportation every where. I also live in an area that one needs a car to get any where. Yesterday I wnet to go to the store but my granddaughter seems to have left the lights on and the battery ran down. She needed it to go to work later in the day. we got her boyfriend to give her jump but then when she was going to let the car run to charge the battery it ran out of gas. She is supposed to fill it up every payday, but lately she has been waiting until a couple of days later. so we had to have her boyfriend take her to the gas station to get gas. Today I made her fill it up. i have a hard time comvincing her it is just as easy to keep the top half full as to keep the bottom half full. The problem with keeping the bottom half full is that the bottom half of the tank is smaller than the top half. Myself I have never ran out of gas like her and her father has.

HEHE I was bad with my old car because the tank had a hole at the top so if you filled it up it would leak. So I always had to run her on empty. Sucked!

I hate cars too. In fact, I don't drive at all, don't even have a license. I need to learn to drive, actually, because there are a ton of things that are much harder for me because I don't have them (from everyday errands to traveling to see doctors in other states). However, if I didn't really NEED to drive, I wouldn't want to. I like walking.

I would never drive unless I had too either! It sucks so bad. I moved here when I was 20 and finally got my license when I was 22. I never realized (coming from a large city) the need for one. SUCKS SUCKS

I didn't expect this to be the problem! You say you have been hit 3 times? I guess the driver had no fault.. ou weren't on a sidewalk so he might have not expected you to cross the road! For this the members of the Town Hall are to blame! There should be no roads without sidewalks.. kids ma simply get killed because of reckless drivers and they won't receive the proper punnishment.. I can't giver u an advice except tr to keep ourself safe and out of the way of the cars!

I meant I didn't realize how hard getting around would be without a bus system or cabs. As for getting hit three times. The first two were mine. I was 5 and 9 and didn't look where I was going. The third time was the driver as I was at an intersection with the right of way and he didn't look where he was going. I never lived without sidewalks until I moved to this community.
