How do you do your grocery shopping? Do you shop weekly, monthly or on the spur of the moment? Are you constantly running out of things? I generally try to shop for the month, figuring I'll pick up things like milk, eggs, bread as I need them through the month. The problem is I always run out before the month is done. It drives me nuts. I hate splitting up the month and having to shop even bi-weekly but I am thinking that is what I'm going to have to do. Whats your best advice for keeping ahead of grocery shopping? MERRY CHRISTMAS!! **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I do that too! If something is on sale I'll grab it and freeze it! No way I'll pay full price for something I don't need to lol.

my boyfriend and i generally just go shopping spur of the moment, whenever we need things or get low on things. we live 2minutes from a save-a-lot store and about 8minutes from walmart, so it's very convenient. the walmart is also open 24/7, even better seeing as how we sometimes have weird sleeping patterns and wake up around 4am.

That is a good time to go to the grocery store. Early when there are no crowds!

I'm a biweekly shopper myself. Except for those small things that you mentioned. I started that because we pay all our bills twice a month. It just is easier that way to do the grocery shopping too then so we know how much money we have (or don't have) left over. I try to write stuff down as I use the last of it or getting close to the last. That's about the only way I can remember to get all I need when I go. I'm so forgetful LOL.

Well first I start out with a weekly menu. Then I get a grocery list started by going off the menu ingredient I don't already have in my cabinet or refrigerator. Then I group my items by stores I frequently shop at; Whole Foods, Walmart Supercenter, or HYvee. I shop every week. Keeping a running list save me a lot of time and money so I am not going in the store blindly just throwing things in my basket. Also try setting a budget. I have a family of three with guest occasionally during the week so $ 150.00 a week is sufficient for my family. You wouldn't run out in the middle of the month if you had an ongoing shopping list and menu. Hope this assist in your efforts of sanity.

I do the same. I go to the store at the beginning of the month and do not go back until the next month, except for stuff like milk and bread. I hate to grocery shop, so I do it as little as possible.

This is an issue for me. I try to grocery shop only once each week. However, I find I am constantly going backwards & forwards to the shops for items I have run out of. It is hard to predict how much certain people in my family are going to eat. Also, the milk may go off, even if I do buy the right quantity.

I'M not the one in my house who do the grocery. My boyfriend do it all the weeks. But Some week he will buy more then other week. He will only buy things that are in special and he will buy more stuff for the month or more.

I shop all the time. I get my Sunday Sun paper and go through the adds to see if anyone has what I need on sale or if they are doubleing or tripling coupons. I like triple but double is good too. I like when grocery stores are doubling up to $1.00 coupons. This doesn't happen ofter but sometimes. I get good buys then. I also like to check to see what items are on rebate that will make a sale price even better. I show ofter which means I do not miss much. I buy according to sales not need. I have an extra freezer in my basement so I can stock up on meant. I also have one of those seal a meal things that suck out all the air to help your food keep better. All these things help me save money in the long run. I do not have a lot of money so I buy what I can when I can. I also love to save money. I also like to share my good deals with friends. I will post on gather.com when there is a really good shopping deal out there. I also belong to an online magazine where we help each other save monay on many things. My daughter tells her friends my mom can make a penny squeel.

We usually grocery shop 3 times a month. Once every two weeks for my hubby and I when he gets paid every two weeks, and once a month we get a child tax cheque (family allowance) for our daughter so we get her diapers, food, etc for the month with that. We too also pick up bread, milk, eggs, etc if we run out in between those times, or if our daughter needs something we didn't get with her child tax. PurpleTeddyBear.

Hi twoey68! I go for grocery shopping on a montly basis preferably on month end. But I like to buy milk, egg or vegetables on a day today basis. I plan myy shopping and I have noticed that things last longer than a month always. You can plan the quantity you need on the basis of your consumpion before you go shopping to ensure that it does nott run out. Goodluck to you!

Oh, about two times a week, somtimes three. If we really need lots of products, we go to Costo or Smart and Final. If we need milk for our twins, we can just go to a local, very small, grocery store two streets away from our home.

Its been a long time since I was able to do the grocery shopping on a set routine lol. I usually have to do it about 2 or 3 times a week. I have to go by myself and there is only so much that I can do at one time. Its the size of the shopping cart and the size of my car that does it..... :-)

I do a big shopping trip a couple times a month. That way, I only have to get milk, eggs and bread in between. I also stock up on things when things are on sale for really good prices.

I just go whenever we need groceries. I don't really go by a schedule as far as weekly, monthly, etc... I always seem to spend around $60-$100 each time I go though regardless of how much food we have in the house. I just see things and know we need them so I go ahead and buy them. And I like to buy meat to keep in the freezer so we always have some kind of meat in there that we could thaw out and cook.

I shop weekly.I go to my supermarket's weekly circular online and I leaf through the pages and see what is on sale and I make my list.I don't put down everything that I will buy so I can see what I really want to eat that week.

Nice topic especially to me that indeed now is experiencing grocery shopping unlike before. I am now living separate from my family with my officemate in an apartment. We usually do the grocery shopping 2 times in a month.. And guess what? of course soon after the payday.. Since there are two paydays in a month, therefore we shoppe 2 times in a month. We just make sure that we wont be running out of items as the next payday approach. We always have a fix budget on this. And good because we never experienced left with nothing at the end. Fish, meat chicken, vegies, pastas, ingredients, instant foods, canned foods, breads, rice water are usually our items. Just make sure that you have enough budget lol

I try to do the same thing..shopping for the month. But buying the other items I need as I need them. I know when I shop I try to buy a little more. When I make something like meatloaf I make two and go ahead and freeze the second one. That helps out a lot. I also make a lot of soups in the winter months and freeze them until I need them. It helps cut back on some of the shopping. That way your not as crazy..:)
