Is It Just Me? Or Do You Talk To Your Tree?

I know, I know. You probably think your fellow MyLotter has gone off the deep end now. But I just have to ask. Maybe it's because I have a deep respect for nature or something and many might resent the idea that so many trees are cut down yearly for that Christmas tree. I know one neighbor of mine gives me a lecture about that. But the way I figure it, well, like, since so many trees are cut down for and as Christmas trees, by my getting one, I'm "saving" a tree to at least give it a good home where it will be loved and nurtured. In years past, whenever I've gotten my Christmas tree, I never really decorate it right away, but let it stand proudly in the official Christmas tree corner of the living room without any decorations for awhile. And every year, I talk to it. Yes, folks, I talk to it, and **gasps** will even give it a hug every time I pass by it. This year is no exception, for this year has been truly special.. I didn't even think I could have a tree due to tight finance, but thanks to very special MyLot "elves" or faeries I managed not to get one but in a sense two trees...and you can see that story in my discussion about "My Christmas Miracle"--the smaller tree isn't really a tree in the true sense but a potted plant of a rosemary plant decorated Christmas=y style, while the other is a bonafide tree. And like I said through the kindness and open, loving hearts of fellow MyLotters, some of whom I will perhaps never know the identity of bringing this little miracle about. So, yes, you better believe I'm talking to those trees...LOL...and hugging them. I ask them are you thirsty, and feel to see if they need watering, and yes, I'm hugging them. Okay, by now you might think this MyLotter, Me, is a bit touched by now. But it works! I swear it! My trees always seem to last a really long time when I talk to them, as opposed to someone who might get a tree and once placed and decorated, never give it a second thought except to thing it an inanimate part of the home without feelings. Hey, they've actually made studies that plants that are talked to thrive better. So fellow MyLotters, for those of you who have real Christmas trees, or at least have in the past..do you "talk" to your tree? Praise it's beauty, respect it? Do you love it for the beauty and warmth it gives at this time of year? Or...gasps...am I completely dingy?? Bats in my belfry? Uh...certifiable??

I don't think it is odd to talk to your tree. I don't see it any different than talking to our plants. I however don't ever remember talking to my tree, but I do talk to my plants.

Maybe then my wishes would come true. I really thought about making ornaments with whishes on them, and hanging them on my tree.

i must admit, i have never spoken to my christmas tree, maybe I should. I think its the fact that it is a small plastic thing that puts me off. However, i have a beautiful forest near my home, and when i need solitude I will often walk down there. When i go for one of my times staying in the forest, I will hug my trees each morning and the last time before i sleep. Yes it helps, strange as some may think it is. By the way, im pleased you got your trees, christmas gifts, indeed blessed be

mmmm....wondering if even artificial trees might have feelings?? I remember the old Japanese religion of Shinto that believes there's a "kami" or spirit in everything. I guess I feel freer about hugging and talking to my trees here cause if I were to walk on the street in my neighborhood and start hugging trees, I think the man in the white coat would be coming after me, and I don't mean the Good Humor ice cream man either...LOL

you are one of those tree huggers? I thought only green peace members do that? no I don't talk to trees, I talk to animals. I love old trees, because they look strong, but I don't talk to them or hug them. Maybe I'm afraid they will answer :):) just messing with you, my friend :):)

Did you know that JRR Tolkien was a tree-hugging person? He had a great love for trees, and not doubt that's perhaps why he thought up the Ents, like Treebeard and those trees COULD talk in Lord of The Rings.

no I never read about that. I love gardening and touching the leaves, but I don't talk to them. I am more to animal lovers than trees, but I won't "hurt" them in any way. In my homeland, we believe there are spirits living on the old trees. Traditional people used to dress the tree and feed these spirits and keep the garden clean for them. They do talk to the spirits but not to the trees. I never join them when they do this, but this belief has been around very long time, just like in some places witchcraft has been daily practice.

I haven't ever hugged or spoken to my Christmas tree, but I have heard that talking to plants in general, is good for them due to the carbon monoxide that we produce while talking. I do not think that you are crazy to do this. I think that, as you say, you just have a deep love and respect for nature and I see nothing wrong or crazy about that. I am happy for you that you were able to get your Christmas tree this year and wish you a Merry Christmas!

I just looked it up. I confess, for some reason I always thought it was carbon monoxide that we breathed out too, but it is rather dioxide...we both learned something, huh? Wishing you a great Christmas too :)

I don't think that carbon monoxide was the term I was looking for there, lol. After reading the other responses to this, I think I was confused- carbon dioxide.

Yes like I say if there was anyone to share it with then sure I would so , then my kitties would have a ball with the decorations and thats another mess , I remember one year one of my kittens tore the tree apart and on Christmas morning when we woke up the tree was ontop of the presents and we had to cleanit up before the kids could even open any presents ... Funny now but my poor kids had to stay in their room so I could clean it up , thank God for Xmas stockings , that preoccupied them til we were ready ... Poor kids ... What a mess I had .... LOL LOL LOL LOL

I agree there's a lot of work involved with a tree, and keeping the place clean..I live alone now, and some might think it daft for me to go all out to decorate and everything, but still do anyway--it brings some cheer into my place.

I talk to my plants at home and in my garden. I tell them that I appreciate their beauty.... Like in "The Celestine Prophecy" book...you can exchange energy with trees...hugging it can give you a lot of energy and joy...

Funny, I have that book The Celestine Prophecy but have yet to read it...come to think of it I have a LOT of books I haven't read yet.. I used to spend hours before officially going to sleep, cuddled up in bed reading. Now for some reason I have an annoying habit of falling asleep when I read and I wake up with the book on my face..LOL

Hi There, Pyewacket! Glad you got that Christmas Tree. I was going to respond to your discussion and tell you to go for it but since I have the money sense of a gnat, I refrained....I also talk to trees (& plants too. Never could understand why they criticized Prince Charles for that.) Then agian, I carry on long conversations with the cats and occassionally even talk to an inanimate object or two. It's so much easier than communicating with humans! LOL

I've also sung to my plants, as well as my tree before. =D I have a big respect for nature, and I believe that in a sense..plants too, have an awareness of sorts. So to talk to them, and coo to them, and sing to them...I dunno, I just think plants can grow to like those who care for them. But you were talking about christmas trees...I actually talk to the ornaments rather than the tree (we only ever get fake ones, anyways). I have no justification for this, other than that I am considered crazy by the local townsfolk ^_^

that is ssssoooooooo............. CUTE, actually... dun worry i dun think you're crazy - far from it. it's is actually good to talk to plants, in general - especially the 'leafy' ones... i am no scientist, or a science teacher.. but i do remember that.. plants uses carbon dioxide for their photosynthesis process - that helps them grow... so by talking to them - you are actually supplying the carbon dioxide which you exhale while breathing... it is best done during the day, when there is 'sunlight'. but i actually appreciate the fact that you appreciate the tree itself - i still remember how much 'you want that tree'!.... take care. peace to all !

LOL you're certifiable alright but not for this matter, lol. I think talking to trees and plants is normal, they're living things and deserve some respect. I have a fake tree... my cat and I share enviromental allergies including to trees. The last time we had a real one, she and I were sneezing up a storm and her poor ears were bothering her so bad. She loves all things Christmas so she likes to spend her day laying under the tree or sniffing wreaths or laying in garlad... so it all has to be fake. Now I'm the dingy one right? LOL

Nope, you're definitely not the dingy one. But maybe your kitty is....just joking. My two kitties love to sleep under the tree..think they've claimed it as "theirs"

LOL... well she might just be lol. She has this old foot stool that's been covered with fabric and has huge pillows on top and it's become her little "loft" as my mom calls it. Well I keep finding christmas decorations under it placed just so, lol. Today is was two glass ornaments and a frosted pinecone. She was so upset when I put them back on the tree, lol. She doesn't play with them, just uses them to decorate. Kitties are so nuts! And soooo cute!!

I always talk to all my plants, while tending to them. I always joke that you can tell which ones I like more, because they are much healthier than those that I have less esteem for. My two favorites have been doing well for years now, even when they have gone through stresses such as moving, or living in a place that does not have a window with adequate light (which is a few months every year in the Pacific Northwest).

I think that's great, pyewacket! I don't have a live tree, but, heck, I still talk to my little silver and white tree, LOL. It looks so much more beautiful this year than in the few previous years that I've had it. I have always talked to my house plants, I guess because I grew up listening to my aunts talk to theirs. I figured if it worked for them it might also worked for me. Add to those facts the idea that trees will listen and not talk back to you, and it's a beautiful thing!

Hi pyewacket:) Nope i don't do that,i might talk to myself but not to my artificial tree, haha.Im allergic to real ones because of their limbs/needls,if i touch it with my arm i will break out in tiny red pimples and a big itchy rash, man do i miss the smell of a real one though, boohoo.I love them, they are so beautiful to look at even when they are not decorated. When i see one in a field i automatically think of christmas. Peanutjar:):)Have a nice night and do not stray up too late because i know you do,hehehe!!!Merry christmas!
