What to do with pickle juice? Any ideas? I just finished a huge jar of pickles and now I have all of this juice. I hate to just pour it down the drain, but what else am I going to do with all of that juice. Anyone have a good idea?

Keep it... and when you exercise drink it. It can be very good at keeping cramping at bay. I found this site which has a bunch of different ideas... Enjoy. http://www.ilovepickles.org/articles/usesforthejuices.html

This is something I learned from my grandmother. She learned it from her grandmother I'm sure. My mother did it. My aunts did it. I do it now and enjoy the results. After I finish eating the pickles I cut up a sweet onion, a cucumber, sometimes cauliflower and anything else I might have on hand, and I add it to the pickle juice. After a few days, the vegetables you add to the juice have a special 'flavor' from the pickle juice. I 'specially love the onions and cucumbers after soaking a few days in the pickle juice. Then again, sometimes, I just enjoy drinking a small bit of juice. Odd maybe....but I do it.

Not odd at all. I also enjoy drinking the pickle juice, and sometimes if I have an upset stomach it seems to help. Probably the salt in it, I guess. Sounds pretty simple. Maybe I'll try to pick up some cucumbers this week at the market. Thanks for the ideas and have a great day posting!

I am the first generation of people in my family to reuse the pickle juice. I am also the first generation of women in my family who never canned her own pickles. Maybe that is why, but I do it just the way you do, except that I also add strips of red or yellow pepper if they are on hand. I wouldn't dream of just pouring that good brine down the drain without giving it a second or third use.

I think you are right. If my stomach is bothering me, for most any reason, it seems to sooth it. Thanks for responding and have a great night.

You are like my mum :) She is trying no to waste anything and she also save the pickle juice, for expample if she make the potatoes salat, she will put the juice there, it will floavoure it. Also to a salat, where go carrot , poatoes, pickles, mayonaise , mustard and sauer cream, she will flavor it with little of the pickle juice. Hope i helped you a little bit.

What I do with the juice of pickles is I grate 1 whole papaya (not the ripe ones) then I blanch it (not boil) and drain then boil the pickle juice after boiling let it cool down a bit for about 5 minutes then put in the grated papaya. Then put the whole thing up in the jar then cover it. You may now use that after it has cooled down as a salad and nice with fried fish, too.

That sounds very interesting. You know, I don't think I have ever eaten papaya. Now if I have the desire I have a recipe. Thanks for your response and have a great day!

Some people take it and use it to make pepper salads, with green and red peppers, and other kinds of vegetables. Other people, like me have even drank it to sooth a sore throat. (Dill juice).

I say drink it. We make it into a "drinking game" of sorts. My husband and I each take a drink and then let the kids join in... whoever will drink the most wins! Also whoever makes the best face wins. This is great with toddlers! :) They love the game and make the best faces!

Hey that sounds like too much fun. Thanks for adding the idea of having a contest. I would have never thought about that even though my brother and I probably did this as kids without really acknowledging it.

It is great for a cucumber, onion and olive salad. Make a day ahead of time so the ingredients will have time to absorb the flavor of the juice. It's even good with dill pickle juice. Or drop some fresh herbs (the ones you like )in with the juice and use it for a salad dressing. I know some people who just like to drink it.

My boyfriend likes pouring a little bit of pickle juice in his caesar's when he makes those. I'm not a big fan of vodka, but I do like the taste of them so I normally have mine virgin.

Thanks for the idea, although I'm not quite sure what a caesar's is. I do like pickle juice in my bloody mary's. But I usually use Claussen's for that because it has all of the spices in the bottom. Thanks for posting and have a great day.

Hubby drinks the juice, but I don't. However I always save a little of the brine for making deviled eggs. I've invented a "lazy" but delicious way to speed up the process of making these. As some of the cooked whites usually split, I put those in the magic bullet first with enough pickle juice to blend them into a runny white paste which I use to dilute the cooked yolks, along with some mustard and mayo. This additive makes the stuffing very smooth and tasty and also there is more of it because of the added egg white. The rest of the pickle juice I reuse a few times to flavor fresh cucumbers, onions, etc., as described above by Terilee.

I like the deviled egg idea. They are one of my favorites, so I must experiment and see what they would taste like with a little pickle juice added. Thanks for the idea! Have a great day posting!

My mom always put pickles in her potatoe salad. My brother never liked anyone else's as well as he loved my mom's. Good suggestion. Thanks for responding and have a great day!
