Thank you for the info. I think it's very important to work as much of our brain as we can. If you don't use it, you lose it.

yep, the old adage of use it or lose it applies to the brain too - you've got to exercise it to keep it in shape...and sharp. :)

I've always done word puzzles. I like almost every kind, even cryptogram puzzles. Don't care for Sudoku though. I think it's important to keep the brain busy and challenged, and I do think it's a 'use it, or lose it' type thing for keeping recall active. I like the New York Times crossword on Sundays, and to all my friends horror, I prefer to do all my puzzles in ink. Doing it in ink you have to make sure your answer is correct, and besides, I have trouble seeing things written in pencil lol.

Thanks for the link! I always like places to find free mind stimulating puzzles. I don't get to them everyday with 3 small children, but I do appreciate them.

thank you for the information as well as the website. I really enjoy doing the cryptic puzzles which were in the daily paper at my mom's house - we do not get a paper here (other than a once a week little flyer type paper)

Interesting link. I do try to learn new things daily, but do not do too many puzzles. I do find myself trying to solve third grade math problems. I also puzzle myself trying to learn new ways to teach the kiddos stuff. I do the third grade level word finds etc.I hope I do not nd up with dementia.

I actually wrote an article about this on Triond. I love word puzzles. Online I play Text Twist, Word Drop and Bookworm. When Sudoku first came out I was so addicted to it I phoned my father every day to get him to read the numbers to me. Now I just stick with the one on Saturday, three on Sunday in the Toronto Star Newspaper. I find it hard to do them on the computer because I like to note all the possibilities with pencil. My father was so big on Jumble that when I was living at home it became a competition between us to see who could come up with the word first. I don't know whether the puzzles have gotten easier or I've gotten smarter but I can do a Jumble puzzle in under a minute sometimes. No more than five minutes. I only get the two weekend papers but I get so far behind because I have to do all the Sudoku puzzles, the Wordsearch, three crossword puzzles, one Jumble and two criptoquips. A couple of times I have done the giant Sudoku (5 puzzles that overlap one another) but I just don't have the time to do that. It's not too hard though. Here is my article on Triond: http://www.healthmad.com/Aging/Short-term-Memory-Loss.71150

Every morning after I have deleted all my unwanted email. I get my coffee and play the AARP crossword puzzle I have followed this same routine for years. I really believe that it wakes up my brain before I start to do any online work.

I make time every day to challenge my melon. I like the following free site a lot because it has a good variety of things. www.addictinggames.com I'm so stubborn when it comes to these that I won't quit until I succeed. Some of them are quite challenging. Mom and I also do the big Sunday puzzle. It's like a race to see who finishes first. Every morning after I read my emails I also play solitaire on my computer until I achieve a really good score. It helps me wake up my brain and tells me if I'm sharp or off kilter, lol.

I tend to do jigsaw puzzles every so often. The site I use is http://www.jigzone.com/ . Thank you for the link, though. I'll have to look at it soon. My brain could use the workout. I feel like it's atrophying sometimes.
