Cat vs Eagle - Who do you suppose will win the Stand Off

Who do you suppose stands the best chance of winning this stand off? I know the ending of the story and will tell everyone when I give the Best Response. You do not have to give the right answer to get the Best Response. I am not looking for a Best or right answer. I am just sharing a cool picture. I cannot believe that the two of them ever even got that close to begin with. Everyone thinks that birds and cats are sworn enemies...things are not always as they seem... Shalom~Adoniah

So that's where I left my stuffed cat! Has to be the Eagle because it either frightened the cat of the ledge or hopped out of the way just as the cat pounced. Either way, it's a remarkable photograph.

Hello P1kef1sh, If they are already that close, it seems to reason that they are not in the pouncing or flying mood don't you think? Shalom

Good point. In that case: "that's where I left my stuffed cat and eagle". I just hope that they all lived happily ever after.

Good photo. I think the eagle will win. In fact, the eagle might take off with the cat! I will certainly be interested in the outcome. I wish we could bookmark certain discussions on here for follow up! Whit

Wow, thats amazing!!! I bet the Eagle wins the stand off! Although it would be interesting if they were raised together, and were friends... I know dogs and cats can get along when brought up in the same house, so why not eagles and cats???

Well, yah you got a point, but I just figured the eagles claws are pretty knarly, and his beak is pretty strong to. Would be cool, to see a picture of what went down, if anything. :o)

Eagles do not usually attack from the ground up do they? Aren't they at a disadvatage on the ground? Don't they usually swoop down from aloft and snag their prey in their talons? Food for thought! Shalom

I don't think there is going to be any real stand off between them...this reminds me of a video I saw where a crow befriended a stray kitten...the two were buddies and neither harmed each other...they followed each other, played together and the crow helped the kitten to eat as the woman who documented and made the video noticed that the kitten wasn't eating--so I think this is the same case of two unlikely creatures being buddies. If you want to see that kitten and crow video it's here.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gj57rI1_JX8

my friend's home was recently destroyed by tornado - outside she had 5 chickens, 3 large dogs and a couple horses.... they showed back up a day and a half later not letting it be known where they took refuge... anyhow, those dogs would have eaten the chickens 2 weeks ago and the chickens had to be kept in their pen - now they are all free ranging, right next to the dogs even! it is like they realize they have been through an amazing thing together and it would be rude to harm each other now. animals are neat.

It was obvious to me as soon as I enlarged the pic that the cat is smiling. The Eagle is just a bit alarmed as he is not in his best defensive position, while the cat (with claws firmly engaged and stabilized in the wooden fence,) definately is. The outcome is unsure. If they are friends no problems will be encountered, if they are not, one will most certainy give way!

Hello Barehugs, Are you sure that is a smile or could it be a grimace. I always have a hard time telling with cats. Now with a dog you always know cause the tail is going too. But a cat is sneaky. If the tail starts to flick you could be in trouble, and that tail looks like it just flicked to me. See you in the funny papers. Shalom

there's nothing funny as this topic doesn't shows the clash between two non-humans. it shows the problems that are faced by an individual in day to day life.

WOW!!!!!!! This is one of the most amazing photographs that I have ever seen. I would never have believed it could be possible. I have to hope that the photo isn't doctored. 'Cause if this could really be genuine, then there's hope for all of us. Wouldn't you agree?

I cannot imagine an eagle in its right mind letting food get that close without partaking of it. Even if that eagle is not hungry, he should be attacking that cat. Interesting isn't it? Shalom

My money is on the eagle. I see it like this. The cat walks closer, the eagle shows off his legendary wing span and the cat runs away.

I am thinking the eagle simply took flight - and the cat being startled may have slipped off the wall some... however, if the cat is anything like ours it either walked up and over the eagle to the other side, or, it curled up alongside it for a nap on the sun heated bricks

Boy, this is a good one! You'll probably get about 100 responses to this. To answer your initial question, in a perfect world an eagle will make minced meat out of a feline. Now, why would the kitty get up on a rail and walk towards the bird? And if the cat is at the point of no return, why hasn't the eagle taken flight and circled in for the kill? There doesn't seem to be an adversarial relationship between the two. I read somewhere in this discussion that it is not a doctored photo. So, that leads me to the conclusion that they are secret lovers! LOL

Hmmm...Where you talking about the eagle and the cat or that round thing that looks like a snake head globe thats gonna bite the rat earth? lol..I think that rat earth and snake globe is funny...In regards to the cat and the eagle well some animals get along together but I think the eagle can fight the cat since it has sharp talons compared to the cats claws..So what do you think about that?

Are you making fun of my Avatar? That happens to be a Catearth and a mousemoon. As far as the cat and the eagle, the talons are nasty but so is that beak. The edges are sharp and sawtoothed! But which one could manuver on land the best? Shalom

It would be a brave cat to take on an eagle and this cat is not that cat. This is no fighter; it is overweight and pampered. It is also unusual, to say the least, for an eagle to be perched on what appears to be a garden balustrade. My guess is that the two were raised together; either the cat takes flight (sic) or curls up next to the eagle. all the best urban

Great photo, but I wouldn't exactly say they look anything like they might end up as friends. Everything about the poses there is perfect though, from the way the bird's shoulders are hunched up to the curve of the kitty's tail. I can almost hear the screeching and yowling that may soon occur.

To be able to capture this standoff moment between an eagle and a cat is awesome! Birds of prey are fierce predators. Even humans are afraid to approach them. Cats on the other hand may be viewed by some people as timid creatures, but in reality, they can stand their ground and show their fearless side when interacting with other animals. I have witnessed many cats around my estate, and I can tell you that where cats and birds are concerned, cats like to stalk and catch birds. I have occasionally seen cats chasing after birds which have gathered on the lawn pecking at food. It's like a game to these cats and they seem to enjoy the challenge. Studies have shown that 60% to 70% of a cat's prey are small mammals, of which 20% to 30% are birds. So I'm not surprised to see the cat in this photo having a standoff with this mighty bird. I'm willing to bet that eventually, the eagle will back off and the cat will gain victory in this standoff.

The stance the cat is taking here is different from what I have seen of cats in say an open field (usually they will be in some crouching position and steal their way towards their prey), probably because the top of the rail is too narrow for the cat to take the kind of gait a stalking cat would normally take. But it sure looks like the cat was making an approach towards the eagle, probably to check out this bird given the bird's size, to ascertain if it can take on the big guy. I would say in general, birds are more scared of cats than the other way round.

USD100 bill - A $100 note for the bet.
I bet you are gonna finally tell us all that both the eagle and the cat are your friend's pets, and they actually live in harmony and bear no animosity towards each other. Here's USD100 for the bet!!

Does this cat's stance give you the impression that it is stalking the Eagle? Does it actually look agressive at all? Does the Eagle look agressive? Shalom
