I really like going out and getting a good hot beef sandwich. It's a beef sandwich with mashed potatoes on top and the whole thing is covered with gravy. I don't eat them alot but once in a while I crave them. When I was growing up though they used to call them commercials! Do you eat the hot sandwiches and do you call them Hots or commercials?

I do eat them! that is the first thing I like to have with roast beef leftovers, they are so satisfying. Though I have never heard them called commercials, that is an interesting name...wonder where it came from. We always called them Open faced or hot roast beef sandwiches.

I don't know where the name commercial came into the picture. But they are one of my favorites!

I too have never heard the hot beef sandwich called commercials. We often ate These when I was growing up and we ate out every Saturday.I love them. The gravy was so good. That was before the franchises. On my last birthday my grandkids took me to Ruby Tuesdays for dinner. The mashed potatoes there were so good. Next time I am there I will have to see if they serve hot beefs sandwiches.

Never heard of a hot beef sandwich being referred to as a commercial. That's interesting. I love an open face, hot roastbeef sandwich. It's a nice size sandwich with one piece of bread cut in two. Sliced roastbeef is covered on top and last is gravy. Usually mashed potatoes are also served and a vegetable. It's a great meal and so filling. It's been awhile since I've had one of these sandwiches. Oh boy, this discussion is making me so hungry.

Hmm! I have never heard of hot beef sandwiches called commercials! any idea of the reason behind this? The closest I know to this is probably the subway sandwich, but even then that is not quite hot. So sorry I can't say what I call these things. That makes me hungry actually. I'm going to be dining alone at home tonight so i should start thinking of what healthy food to eat...

Many times I will fix a roast and enjoy making hot beef sandwiches with the last bit of gravy and meat, piled high on a slice of bread. I have it often but don't buy it much at a restaurant. I call them Hot Beef Sandwiches.
